Small place that packs a big punch! They have an incredible collections of gems and precious stones and even a fluorescent stones room. They have gems from many places in SC, which is super cool to see. The adjacent room to the gems is full of fossils and interesting info about dinosaurs and ocean creatures. There are gardens outside the building and it's inside the Botanical Gardens who you can walk those trails. They also have a scavenger hunt so be sure to grab that at the entrance. And it's all free!
This was a great trip for the kiddos. There are nice walking trails outside the museum.
Inside there is so much information about the history and geology of the great state of South Carolina, much of which was donated by Clemson University Alumni 🧑🎓.
They have scavenger hunts for children and some gold from Dorn mine from McCormick, SC! Glad we finally got a chance to visit the Botanical Gardens after all this time.
We visited the botanical garden and stopped here on a whim... Wow, what a surprise! Fossils and some interesting stones... plus a cool florescent stone exhibit. Small, but free entry. Check it out.
[Seems open now as of September 2023, prev. was closed as of April 6, 2023.] Looks like a great place. Visiting the school but we are about 500 miles away so might not be able to come back. There is an outdoor garden with some specimens.
Absolutely fascinating!! I could go again and again and read something different each time! The fossils and the gems are amazing! And the botanical gardens are great too! Highly recommend. It's a great homeschool field trip, or just a fun family day! They have a scavenger hunt paper on the right as you walk from the gift shop into the museum, so don't forget to grab one!
We decided to check this place out and bring the kids while visiting Clemson. What a hidden treasure. (Pun) Great experience for the kids to run around outside and check out all of the plants and cactus. Museum was absolutely incredible, especially for the price which was free! The staff was super helpful and engaging and my kids really learned a lot about dinosaurs and fossils while here. Highly recommend for any families to check out if they’re in the area.
I cannot express how much I love this place. Nice staff, great collection, and overall just a really nice atmosphere. Feels like a super small version of the Museum of Natural History up in NYC, but without the frustrating crowds. Not to mention, this place has free entry (and pretty great merch).
This is a must see. Great museum hidden on the university for the locals that don't know. Definitely worth going to see. I've been trying to find more museums of different types in the upstate of south Carolina and this is one of the best. Google maps is a great tool for finding these places.
