I spent hours trying to decide on the best place to stay on our recent trip to the San Diego area. We were celebrating our 30th anniversary. I knew I wanted someplace romantic, clean, close to beaches, and good food. I found all of this and so much more, staying at Earl and Linda's wonderful B&B. Linda's breakfasts are elegant, new table settings each morning, fresh fruit, french toast, bacon, sausage, juices, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. The Garden room was wonderful! I've never seen such a clean room. The shower & jacuzzi tub for 2 are very relaxing. The bed & pillows felt just like home. The interior decorating is charming, no expense was spared. You have 2 porches & we slept with doors open, as the weather was perfect. Awoke to chirping birds and the peaceful sounds of water falling. The grounds are lush with flowers and trees. The room is extra private & quiet. Linda and Earl are the nicest people. The price is certainly reasonable for all you get. This is not the closest place to beaches, but not far at all, and I promise that if you are looking for a great place for a romantic getaway, you will be 100% happy at Black Orchid, so look no further. Thanks Earl & Linda - we'll be back!

Linda and Earl are very kind and friendly hosts. We stayed two nights on a self planned bike tour of the area. They were kind enough to let us bring our spendy bikes inside so that we didn’t have to worry about them being stolen. It looks like right now, they only have the Garden room available as the other rooms are filled with semi permanent residents. Linda is an excellent cook and a great conversationalist. The B&B is one mile up the hill from downtown Encinitas. We enjoyed biking or walking to dinner.

I’ve heard only great stuff from the locals about this hideaway. I’ve recommended it to my outdoorsy friend who does high tech remote work and loves to surf 🏄‍♀️ and free dive. Encinitas is a great place to chill and relax.

This beautiful Bed and Breakfast is a treasure! The sunsets are breath taking with glorious water, garden, and courtyard views. A lovely fountain greets you as you enter the front courtyard. Its a very special place to rest and refresh your spirit. Linda's specialty breakfasts and treats are delicious and unforgettable! This elegant hideaway will always be special!

The exquisitely prepared meals satisfy the hungry ❤️ heart and the hearth brings warmth to it, too ! Be prepared to be served with excellence! Linda and Earl own the Black Orchid Bed and Breakfast! Best host and hostess! Minutes from blue waters of Moonlight Beach. Location! Location! Location! I ordered location! Must eat broccoli soup - satiated my appetite! It's freeway close yet sits in quiet neighborhood that radiates calm, peace, and beauty. Linda knows how to create elegant charming suites! Earl, the Catholic Cowboy, brings country music tunes to their B&B mansion by appointment only! He and Linda make a fantastic team! Happy Saint Joseph, the Worker, feast day! We stayed at Black Orchid B & B for two nights, August 3rd and 4th. We had not been there before. Our room, the River Boat Suite, was very nice and large, with a tiled balcony on two sides and four sets of French doors opening onto the balcony. The bathroom has a very fancy looking tub and a separate large shower with very nice tile work. The toilet is in its own little room. The bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. I mention this because there were more decorative items and pieces of furniture in the room than you can imagine, but there was no dust. There were nice chairs to sit in out on the balcony and it is a nice place to sit and read. We could even see a bit of the ocean from our room and the balcony.||||The breakfasts were very good and the presentation was lovely. Plus, Linda gives you dessert, so no need to eat again until dinner time.||||Linda and Earl are very friendly and talkative. Some people may find them a bit too talkative, but they are charming and we enjoyed visiting with them. We would stay there again if we were in the area. They are located a few blocks from the botanical gardens.||||We called only a week before we wanted to stay, and I was a bit concerned because they do not take credit cards, only cash or checks. Linda asked me to make out our deposit check to her rather than the business, which also concerned me as to whether there was some kind of problem. She said she didn’t have a business checking account yet. They have been in business for eight years. I did wonder about that. I meant to send a deposit, but didn’t remember to get it done in time. I just e-mailed Linda to let her know I forgot and she was fine with that. (In general though, you will want to send that deposit, otherwise they won’t hold your room for you if someone else wants to book it.) When we got there, everything was fine and normal, and once you get acquainted with Linda and Earl it won’t seem so odd that they run their business differently than you might expect. You will get their lowest rate if you call and book directly rather than using an on-line booking service.

The Black Orchid has theme styled rooms. Our room was done in a New Orleans theme and it was a bit over the top. Our hosts, Linda and Earl were very friendly and outgoing. They serve a wonderful breakfast.

The breakfast is one of the best we have ever had at a B&B and the hosts, Linda & Earl, are so friendly and helpful. We were visiting from Connecticut but felt like we were staying in a home away from home. Don't miss out on this memorable experience.
