I absolutely love visiting Black Hills Basecamp! Anytime I have to be in Rapid for work, I make sure I stop for a while. It is such a welcome reprieve from the work that I do and gives me some joy in the winter months when I can't be backpacking. Thank you for this great facility and keep up the great work!
We love Basecamp!! The staff is so friendly and the climbing gym is amazing. There are so many different things to do. Climbing is the most fun and best work out for your body. I’m so glad we have an awesome gym like this in Rapid.
After only a couple visits I decided to become a member and after 4 months of membership I'm still excited for every opportunity I get to go climb. The variety of routes and difficulties keeps me, as well as my 9 and 14 year old nephew and niece, engaged and challenged. The staff is fabulous and all seem to strive to help climbers enjoy the sport and Basecamp's facility. The community of climbers is welcoming, helpful, and thoughtful. The gym, restrooms, showers, etc... are all in excellent condition. If you climb so much that you tire of the available routes before new weekly routes are put up, there's a light-up moon board and tension board with endless route configurations to choose from. So many good things to say. If you're considering checking it out, it's time to get up and go.
After my family and I moved to Rapid City, it was a blessing to find a local climbing gym that has a passion for climbing, community and youth. As an experienced climber with a wife and kids who also like to climb, we’ve enjoyed the high-quality routes, equipment and friendly atmosphere. If you’re thinking about trying climbing out or bringing your family here for some fun, do it!
Took my daughters here to do some climbing while in the Black Hills. This place gives bouldering experience in a controlled environment to build skills. Very friendly staff, interesting & challenging bouldering courses, clean restrooms, & rental equipment.
Bought climbing classes as a family Christmas gift and it has been amazing. We’ve all learned so much this year and found something to challenge each of us differently in the amazing community and environment created here. Want to try something new? This is definitely the place to do it. Experienced and want to challenge yourself? The setting crew does an extraordinary job making sure there are routes for all skill levels.
We came for my daughter's 9th birthday and had so much fun! Great for almost all ages to enjoy and all abilities! Having children on the autism spectrum, I'm always on the hunt for places not too crowded, that don't require lines or have too many directions and this place was absolutely perfect!!!! Such a great way to enjoy a birthday or just a Monday too!
Climbing at Basecamp has challenged me in the best way both physically and mentally. Lessons with Laura really empowered me to try harder things than I thought I could! She is inspirational and all the staff just have kind souls. I highly recommend reaching out to get started with them.

This is definitely one of the nicest bars in Rapid City. It has a huge, new, old style bar that reaches to the ceiling, with a ladder that slides side to side so staff can get to the top shelves. And the glass shelves are beautifully stocked with an
Had the Muddy Berries Crepe...and OMG. nothing beats a fresh crepe with fresh fruit, Nutella, and whipped cream. Wouldn't expect this from a food court in a mall. Highly recommend. Their reeses and cream Gelato was decent as well.
Absolutely love everything about this place!!! Met them at a concert downtown where they had the food truck. They were closing but still fed 3 of us dinner and didn't seem put out about the last min guests. Few months later found the brick and mortar

My daughter had her first dance class the other day, and she was very shy and didnât do a lot of the things Miss Anna was teaching, but Miss Anna was patient with her and still tried to make her feel included. We signed our daughter up for dance cl
