Beautiful campground!!! We love this place and definitely coming back. There is a Tap Room on site with really good beer and wine. The location is also close by other breweries and wineries. The owners, Dan and Lora, are wonderful hosts, super nice people. We would definitely recommend this campground to anyone looking to stay in the Black Hills area.
We love this place! Owners Lora and Dan are some of the most intelligent, interesting folks that you'll ever meet! They make you feel wanted, all while letting you enjoy your vacation and the oasis that they have built.
The facilities are extremely clean with the additional benefit of beautiful views. This safe countryside area, is located close to all the small family friendly towns, such as Keystone, Hill City and Custer. Right down the road is Mount Rushmore(!), Deadwood, Rapid City, Badlands, Hotsprings, wineries, breweries, hiking and numerous family oriented businesses.
There's something for everyone to do...unless you're an angry-type person...then just stay home. If you want a great place to stay and enjoy the area, bring a smile and an adventurous heart as this is your place!
An excellent place to stay! Thanks again Lora and Dan for your hospitality!!
The cabin was nicely appointed, and resort easy to find.
Upon check-in, Lora, one of the owners greeted us and got us settled. She and her husband were very welcoming and kind throughout our three night stay.
The cottage was perfect, comfortable, and had everything we needed.
The property is in a great spot, very close to Mount Rushmore and not too far from Badlands and other attractions.
We highly recommend Black Elk Resort, and will stay here in the future if our travels bring us to the area.
The property was immaculate. The location was perfect with great views. The cabin we stayed in was clean and comfortable, and we had HOT water!!!! The owners treated us like family and they take such great care of the property. Unbelievable place to stay. I would highly recommend Black Elk Resort, and we can't wait to come back next year!
My wife and I stayed in a cabin while our kids stayed in the camper at one of the sites at the beginning of July. The location was perfect and the whole experience was fantastic. We sat around the fire and enjoyed everyone who was there. The cabin was clean, comfortable and a great bed. The Dan and Lora couldn’t have been nicer and keep the place immaculate. Thanks for the experience and hope to see you again soon. Scott and Michelle.
Easily rated 5 stars. Beautiful surroundings with a highly manicured property to enjoy. Taproom on site features great local breweries and wineries. Nightly fires provided by the owners at the central garden allowed for interesting conversations meeting fellow travelers. Lora and Dan go out of there way to accommodate and provide local insights to this area. We enjoyed a week of sightseeing all the Black Hills have to offer as well as the Badlands NP and Devil's Tower.
I was blown away by Black Elk! The cabin was clean and cozy. The beds were very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Upon check in we were given a map and tourist guidebook of the area along with suggestions of places to checkout. I really felt like they cared about us and wanted to make sure we had an enjoyable trip and comfortable stay. I will recommend Black Elk to anyone visiting the area. The location is great as well, just a few miles from downtown Hill City, Keystone, and Mount Rushmore. Lots of great things to do without traveling far!
Dan and Loralee are amazing. Ever since the first time I walked into the taproom they have been amazing!! They keep and maintain a very clean establishment! They make you feel like it's your neighborhood hang out!. Stop in and say Hello, they are both great people. They will make you feel like a friend that they have know for years. it is truly a great Black Hills stop!!
Really enjoyed camping out at the reservoir! We got to canoe the area and had plenty of fun. We reserved for two nights, but unfortunately had to leave early because our neighbors were so loud well into the night (about 3:00am). Something to consider
This was a good place for exploring the area. Once you are in the campground, you don't feel like you are near a big city. Our pull through site was level and a good size length and width. The hot tub and dog park were good. The bathrooms/ showers w
We only got to stay at this site for one night on our way into Custer South Dakota in September of 2023. The site was absolutely beautiful, and the check in people were so nice. They allowed us to stay an hour and a half extra the next day which help

This is definitely one of the nicest bars in Rapid City. It has a huge, new, old style bar that reaches to the ceiling, with a ladder that slides side to side so staff can get to the top shelves. And the glass shelves are beautifully stocked with an

I absolutely love visiting Black Hills Basecamp! Anytime I have to be in Rapid for work, I make sure I stop for a while. It is such a welcome reprieve from the work that I do and gives me some joy in the winter months when I can't be backpacking. Tha
My daughter had her first dance class the other day, and she was very shy and didnât do a lot of the things Miss Anna was teaching, but Miss Anna was patient with her and still tried to make her feel included. We signed our daughter up for dance cl
Absolutely love everything about this place!!! Met them at a concert downtown where they had the food truck. They were closing but still fed 3 of us dinner and didn't seem put out about the last min guests. Few months later found the brick and mortar
We didnât expect to stumble upon an authentic Bangladeshi restaurant in Rapid city but glad we did. We called before arrival as it was close to closing time. The couple was very sweet and accommodating. We ordered Piyaju, Morog polao and rice with
Had the Muddy Berries Crepe...and OMG. nothing beats a fresh crepe with fresh fruit, Nutella, and whipped cream. Wouldn't expect this from a food court in a mall. Highly recommend. Their reeses and cream Gelato was decent as well.
It is hard to believe that the 12th century church is still standing strong and beautiful on the hills. This is a wonderful architectural marvel in Rapid City. The entire edifice is made of wooden blocks and columns. Definitely recommend this church
