Black Bear Restaurant - American restaurant in Olathe - 11981 S Strang Line Rd, USA

I used a birthday coupon for a free meal and my spouse orders the same meal. We essentially did the same thing at Denny's a week prior. The bill here ended up being twice the amount for the same food at Denny's. Atmosphere and service was better here ..food was about the same. Eggs were cold. The other food items were hot which makes you think the eggs were plated up too early. The Denny's French toast was much better than black bear..on a brioche bun. My husband's biscuit was huge here though although his biscuits and gravy were plain gravy and Denny's had sausage gravy. Overall for grabbing breakfast for the price Denny's would come out on top.

I found my food to be missing items that would have made it better. The Chile was very good. The description in the menu fits it to a "T" Avoid the temptation of adding onions to it. they were overbearing, and you will miss out on that great flavor. 👍 I did complain lightly about my plate, and management saw fit to discount the cost. Great place to enjoy comfort foods with families or friends. Food was pretty decent, the steak was not too bad, of course don't expect it to taste like a high end steakhouse. Prices are moderate and affordable. Plenty of options to choose from including breakfast to dinner entrees. The decorations of the restaurant is pretty cute and cozy. There are desserts offer in the front to buy as well as few Bear theme souvenirs such as shirts and Jammies. Definitely a perfect place to bring kids along.

To start the young lady who greeted us made it clear she didn't want to be there. Despite the restaurant being 90% empty it took 15 min to get a seat? However once we did wowza! Great food great svc! Lovely waitress stopped by several times to make sure we were okay. Food 9/10 steak cooked nice and rare like I asked for. The sides were fresh and crunchy. Would absolutely go again!

The portions were large. Price wasn't too expensive for the amount of food you got. The pancakes are delicious- they literally taste like cake. The service was WONDERFUL. The flor was dirty in the restaurant, but we went to eat at 8 after they finished dinner rush. Will definitely return again!

Serves breakfast all day. The meals are large portions, you can easily have leftovers to take home. The "sweet cream pancakes" are very sweet, I could taste vanilla in them. The eggs are light and fluffy, reminded me of IHOP's eggs but more real/fresh. Some of the dinner meals come with salad and a cornmuffin, which is better than Crackers Barrel's muffins because it is sweeter and not dry. I have also gotten the fish and chips in the past, and it was also very good and fresh tasting. I will definitely be coming back!

Really good food, really good Service. Atmosphere is rustic & cabin like. Restrooms are spotless. You won't leave hungry.

Been driving by the billboard for a couple years, finally decided to try it. Didn't take long to get seated despite it being Sunday lunch time, so that was nice. I like the atmosphere gimmick. Our server gave us a brief run-down of how things work, which isn't really any different from any other diner. I had the Bear's Choice with biscuits and gravy, two eggs, and bacon. My partner had 1 biscuit with gravy and bacon. It wasn't bad. I've had better, but I've definitely had worse. On the plus side, they give extra gravy for free. Coffee wasn't bad either, and it's reportedly single-source beans. Our server overall wasn't the most attentive. She walked by a few times without even looking at us. I don't want servers to hover but if you're walking by us anyhow a quick check-in wouldn't hurt. In all I'd say it's worth a visit, at least once. You might have better luck than I did, or different tastes. After all, it's a big chain so they must be doing something right.
