Big Texan Motel - Motel in Amarillo - 7701 Interstate 40 Access Rd, USA

We loved staying here! The rooms were themed and quirky but make you feel like a real cowboy/cowgirl!|We used the pool which was great in the heat. We had dinner at the Big Texan Steak ranch which is on site. It was one of the best meals we had while in the USA. |We also really liked the electronic code entry to the rooms - we were sent the code which made check in very easy. It was also great to be able to text the front desk and they were very quick to respond. Definitely stay here if you get the chance!

After driving past the Big Texam motel many times while driving through Amarillo., we decided to stop there for one night on our trip. First of all, the rooms are very reasonable. Our room was around $90 including taxes and fees. There was easy online booking. The motel sends you a confirmation text with a code to unlock your door and enter on your own which s good if you are arriving late or want to avoid shared common space in the lobby (though the front desk staff was very friendly and efficient.) It is easily accessible off the frontage road from Highway 40. There is free off-street parking though the lot can be crowded since it is shared with the restaurant and can be quite crowded. We booked a double queen room with separate vanity and shower and tub. There are two stories with no elevator so keep that in mind in requesting a room. There was a mini-fridge with a freezer section. We had a microwave, coffeemaker, iron and board, and hairdryer. The flooring was vinyl plank. The beds were firm with plenty of pillows. The rooms are decorated obviously in a western decor including a door to leave a message on. It is next to the Big Texan Restaurant and gift shop which is open from 10-10. It is generally quiet though you can hear traffic noise since rooms have an outside exposure. The hotel does provide access to the famous Texas-shaped swimming pool. Many other conveniences, restaurants and attractions are a short drive from the hotel. Free password protected reliable internet. Free accessible working ice machine. There was coin operated laundry on site. There is actually a space for horses next door and a dog park. There are some walkable sidewalks, but they are along a busy road.

We loved the decor. Aside from television/channel options everything was great! Walking distance to Big Texas restaurant made it even better. We will definitely be back. Even came with a fly swatter. Where there's cows, there's flies. You can count on that. I'm not saying we had a fly problem. Just thought it was convenient.

We loved staying here for the night! Check-in was super easy as they text you the rm number and key code to enter. Cleanliness was 5/5. Only downfalls are that the beds weren’t super comfy and there wasn’t a plug for the tub to give my daughter a bath. Those are things we could easily get over though on our 2,300 mile trip from Idaho to Houston! We loved how easy and non-stressful everything was with this stay! Would definitely recommend this motel!

I booked this room over the phone, and the person assisting me was so, so nice. It made me look forward to this stop during our Route 66 trip. The room was accessible and clean, and the text check-in was perfect and put me at ease since I never knew when we would arrive to each hotel since we were on the road each day. I loved the saloon swinging door in the room! This is a great place to stay if you are doing Route 66 and want to stay at a unique place.

Very clean and perfectly kitschy “no frills,” perfectly located next to I-40. Quiet despite its close proximity to Interstate. Loved the decor. AC worked well and shower was excellent. Bed had softer mattress than I like, but that is personal preference. Very easy check-in and check-out. Great value for the price.

We enjoyed our stay at the BIG Texan. The room was clean and very unique. The self check in was great. We had dinner at the restaurant which was a little disappointing due to dry steak. The atmosphere was great though and the old man going from table yo table singing was a huge hit with our boys!

I've never stayed in a motel before, so I was a little wary. This place was really cute and very clean. More than what I expected. Room was very Texas-themed, and perfect for a one night stay. We didn't use the pool, but there were a few people in it and looked like it was nice (it's outdoor). It is next to a "horse hotel," so there was some smells outside, but inside the room was cute and cozy.
