The hotel is centrally located directly in the Shenandoah NP. We had al lovely time here.|Yes, the rooms are a bit basic and rustic, but that is part of the experience. There was a little noise coming through the connecting door, but not too much troubeling. |You are surrounded by the trees and there are lots of hiking possibilities.|Breakfast is not included, but available at the restaurant a la carte. Dinner is also possible here. We enjoyed the eating experiences we have had here. Tasty food and nice staff.|Wifi is available at the main building. Here is a large room where you can play games, make a jigsaw puzzle or listen to live music at some evenings.|Nice general shop on the site where you can buy souvenirs, clothing or anything else. Very nice lady at the shop.|So, overall we can recommend the hotel! We hope you enjoy it.
The place is outdated, the cabin had an extremely strong smell of chlorine, the locks were functional but needed some extra effort to work them. No soundproofing at all -- we could hear people talking and snoring in the neighboring cabins. Older restaurant staff seem jaded and very inflexible, although the younger staff are lovely and very accommodating. We could live with some discomfort, but the stench of chlorine and the rudeness of the older staff really spoiled the overall impression. We did figure out how to turn on the shower, but it is an unusual mechanism (to pull down on the ring at the bottom of the faucet) so it would be good to put up a sign in the bathroom or at least write about it somewhere. We loved the hiking and the weather, and the location is great! Breakfast was delicious and our server in the morning was excellent. The check-out was easy and again the staff member who checked us out was very nice and accommodating. At the same time, we heard a couple complain that they booked three nights and every night they were moved to a different room. This does not seem very nice or efficient. Overall, it was a mixed impression, so we do hope that the necessary improvements will be made.
The Big Meadow Lodge was a great location as a halfway point on our north to south trip. Easy to located and to get checked in. We stayed on the second floor overlooking the woods (highly recommend). The room was clean. The bathroom, while a bit dated, was fine.|Breakfast in the lodge was very nice. Our experience in the taproom was far from ideal but everything else was outstanding.
We stayed in a "Lodge Room - One Double, Two Singles" with our children for two nights in August. It's worth noting that we actually received two rooms with a shared "front door" and flight of stairs. This hotel's biggest selling point is its location, which is excellent, in the heart of the National Park, within easy access of the visitor centre and several good trails with beautiful views both from the building and just a short walk away. An excellent place to stay and explore the park with ease. As others have noted it is also very rustic and basic accommodation for the price. Google lists it as "three star" but I can't see that it meets the criteria for that rating. No refrigerator or air conditioning etc. but we knew this when booking. What we weren't expecting was that one of our rooms had a hole in the wall I had to plug with a towel while the other had its fireplace vent guard (to prevent bats and other small animals coming in) broken off and placed on the mantle. When I asked at reception about getting this fixed I was told "that's a maintenance issue and we don't really get maintenance up here" so that too was plugged with a towel (it was full of acorn shells and other small mammal foods). We also had at least one mouse (or other small furry mammal) in the room which was very active at night. Insect screens on the windows had holes and both the single beds' metal bases creaked loudly at the slightest movement so being worn out from hiking is probably helpful to ensure you get some sleep. I will note that the room and bedsheets were all clean on arrival, though many items were scuffed, rusted or missing, day to day upkeep is happening but less so longer term maintenance. I notice that a lot of reviews are receiving responses along the lines of "we're an old building in the woods so these problems are inevitable" but having stayed at other National Parks in log buildings decades older than this one (Yellowstone and Yosemite most recently) I would say that Big Meadows Lodge is certainly behind them in terms of upkeep, comfort (and keeping the wildlife outside rather than in) but the location is an undeniable selling point.
We have stayed 'in a park' before so we knew it would be basic - and it was. Perfect for switching off to recharge your batteries.|Comfortable beds, heating and everything in the room worked. |A nice lounge area in the Lodge and a bar downstairs. |Easy access to easy walks, and ample car parking. |The evening meal was adequate and breakfast was better, but that was a staff issue more than menu choice- I could see that everyone was worried about the possibility of a shut down. |The location was perfect and for that reason we would go back.
We had a fantastic 2 night stay in one of the preferred rooms with a king on the very edge of the lodge area. It was quite and relaxing. The room itself while not overly updated was exactly what we wanted on price to get us in the heart of the park on a weekend. We were able to use it as a good base for hiking during our stay. The lodge itself has a great main restaurant as well as a bar with food and a coffee shop. All the food we had was delicious and while you are a somewhat captive audience the prices of what you get are pretty reasonable. Just a cool and unique get away for a weekend if you are nearby or even worth traveling a bit for this park if you want to see more national parks.
This place is absolutely amazing! We were driving through on our way to Tennessee and wanted to take the scenic route. The views were amazing. The restaurant was really good. Service in the restaurant was a little slow to start, but once we were seated, it was great. Our room was small but it was perfect for us. The room was clean, the bathroom was nice, and the bed was comfortable. The weather was so good we left our windows and door open (locked the screen door) for the whole night. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely have to return for another stay.
I enjoyed my stay, but a mini fridge in the cabin would have made it more affordable food wise. Eating in the dining room or bar was pricey for slightly better than summer camp food. Endless hiking of varying distances and levels of difficulty. The staff was great. The A.T. passes right below the lodge. I was able to hike a 5.4km!

A mostly locals diner with incredible food. Cash Only! Joined some friends for breakfast and it was packed. The high reviews and activity held up. Our waitress was prompt and attentive to us and many other tables. Our bacon, egg, and cheese biscuits
The experience we had at Shenandoah Woods was so much better than anyone can explain in a few sentences of an online review. We held our wedding there this past August, along with our guests booking out many of the cabins that are located on site as
