Big John's Treat Shoppe - American restaurant in Calhoun - 120 Williams St SW SE, USA

I'm never disappointed with Big John's. I'm either there for breakfast with my buddies from high school (maybe every 2 or 3 months), or calling in to pick up a jumbo bacon cheeseburger plate with fries and slaw (maybe every couple of months). Their gravy reminds me of my grandmother's. Biscuits are nice and fluffy. I'm not what you'd call a "regular" even though I live within a mile of the place, so it's funny watching all the heads swing around when you walk in the door. Couldn't recommend any higher if this is your kind of food.

I tried this place twice before reviewing it. I remember the old Big John's Treat Shoppe in Dalton and recall they had the best burgers and BBQ....so, needless to say, disappointing doesn't cover it for this place. I first tried breakfast about 5-6 months ago. I got gravy with biscuits and a side of bacon. It was beyond bland and the only flavor was the grease the bacon came swimming in. I had to throw away the whole thing and it wasn't cheap. So, forward about 2 months and my sister brings home Big John's for dinner. I thought the breakfast was a one time thing. Surely. Just a bad day. Uh, no. All I can say is eat here at your own risk because it's 50/50 it'll be disgusting or it'll be good. They're not cheap. If you take the time to look, it seems the reviews are steadily declining the past 5 to 6 months. So it isn't just me. I ordered the burger and fries for dinner. It was the most burnt, dry, tasteless meal I've ever had in my life. It tasted like charcoal and that's it. I could've chewed up charcoal out of the bag for free because we already had some of that at the house. So I won't be back to this one. It makes me nauseated thinking of it. In fact, someone recently asked if I wanted lunch and I did until they offered this place. I passed. I don't ever pass up food. It's THAT bad. They better get a grip on whatever the issue is because they're gonna ruin a good long lasting business if it continues to worsen.

Staff were friendly, service was excellent and food was good.

Tried calling on a Saturday to place a to go order. The lady on the phone was rude and kept talking over me. She also doesn’t know how to take an order, and will want you to recite the menu exactly to her or she will get angry. If you want to make returning customers have sweetheart get another job.

Great food, with great folks. It's always a pleasure to slow down and grab a seat here and grab some local grub.

We use to eat there alot... good food.. nice people.... sometimes you have to wait a while to get served... and it's pretty expensive!!

This place is a little hidden gem. We stopped here on a whim and am I glad we did. The food is phenomenal. The service was great and fast to be obviously understaffed.

A great local eatery with good food, the staff is pleasant an seem happy to serve you. Location is off the beaten path which is nice but this place could do so much more in a higher traffic location. Hope they never move from here though its a great diner for the side of Calhoun Gordon County it's on that has much less selection as anywhere else. Big John's offers a wide variety of meals for anytime and anyone who is hungry, a real treat.
