Still my favorite breakfast in DTR. The chicken fried chicken is always on the special menu when I’m in here and always delicious when I get it. Pro tip, taste it before you salt it. I wasn’t thinking the last time I ordered it and salted it with my fries. It didn’t need/want the extra salt. Original review: Big Ed’s is my favorite classic breakfast in DTR. Nothing fancy just good breakfast classics with a southern influence. The pancake is giant and thick. You’ve been warned. The chicken fried chicken is just about perfect. The omelettes are good and the fried fish is a little unusual for breakfast where I came from but it was certainly delicious when I got it here. Service is friendly, the kitchen is fast even when the place is busy and it always is on weekends
Big Ed's came as a recommendation from a local friend, who suggested for my breakfast order to get the steak with hot cakes, but I subbed for French Toast. The aesthetic is rustic antique and felt cozy. Jack was my server, and he was great. My food came out quickly. I enjoyed my food but my only gripes were that the biscuit tasted flour-y and the steak was very salty, but when I ate it with eggs, it helped mute the seasonings a bit. Overall, I'm very pleased. I'll definitely be back!
We came in after seeing great reviews and getting a confirmation from a ride share driver. We sat quickly, were greeted in a timely manner, and the food we ordered arrived quickly. The small issue we had was resolved, and our meal was taken care of. We would recommend coming in for friendly service and home style cooking!
If you are seeking for a southern diner, look no further. BIG ED’s is the spot! Buttery biscuits, flattering southern hospitality, and steak and eggs for $14… I need to say no more…
Big Ed's is a chain of Southern restaurants in North Carolina. They serve a variety of comfort food, such as fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, and country ham. I visited the Big Ed's City Market Restaurant in Raleigh, NC. The restaurant is located in a historic building in the heart of downtown Raleigh. The interior is decorated with funky antiques, giving it a laid-back and cozy atmosphere. I ordered the Southern breakfast plate, which comes with two eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, and biscuits. The food was delicious and the portions were generous. The biscuits were especially good, they were light and fluffy and perfectly cooked. The service at Big Ed's was friendly and attentive. The waiter was happy to answer my questions about the menu and make recommendations. Overall, I had a great experience at Big Ed's. In town for work and happened upon Big Ed's. What a nice surprise....good food, prices, people and atmosphere. I highly recommend and will go back whenever I'm in the area.
This is truly a gem! The restaurant is so eclectic, I loved everything about my experience from the service to the food and overall look! Definitely a good choice with a hometown historical vibe and feel!
My meal was every bit as amazing as it looks. A BONA fide Southern breakfast experience. The atmosphere and ambiance are also top shelf with a ceiling chock full of curiosities and antiques. The service was lightning fast and brimmed with that quintessential "Southern hospitality." The chicken fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, while being fall apart tender on the inside. The biscuits were like clouds over Savanah on a summer day. Close to the best breakfast experience I've ever had.
