My friend and I needed a place to stay in the LA area for a couple of days. We found this place on Expedia and were initially skeptical, but the staff quickly made us feel welcome and safe. They were upfront and honest with us about everything and they genuinely wanted their guests to have a good stay. The room was pretty clean and they definitely change the sheets and blankets between guests. In addition, the motel was in a good area and was located close to several restaurants and markets. I've read several reviews saying people didn't get their deposits back, but my friend got ours back within a day. I think that as long as you're careful to keep the room as is and not damage anything, you should be fine. Overall, it may not be the nicest hotel I've ever stayed in, but I had a great experience and I have no regrets. That being said, if you're extra particular about staying in "nice" places or you're traveling with children, this is probably not the place for you. But if you and your buddies are just looking for a place to sleep, then I recommend the Beverly Merlot.

Do yourself a massive favor and don't stay here. It was cheap so I wasn't expecting much but wow did they manage to blow me away with how disgusting this place was. I booked the room for three nights and walked out after not staying any. The manager has refused to give me my money back. - My most serious complaint and incredulously heinous part of the room was the bed. There were MULTIPLE STAINS AND RESIDUE ON THE COMFORTER AND BOTH SETS OF SHEETS. - There was mold above the shower - Shower only had cold water - Rampant and massive stains all over the carpet - Clear dust and residue all furniture and surfaces - The lock to the front door of the complex had been DRILLED OUT. There was no mechanism to stop literally anyone on the street that wanted to come inside. - I had booked two consecutive reservations and the person at the front desk had NO LITERAL IDEA if he could possibly get me the same room all three nights. Eventually told me to text the manager. - you cannot call and talk to anyone at the hotel. The voicemail says to text instead.

Our stay at the Beverly Merlot was rather strange. We couldn’t actually find the hotel at first because there is no sign anywhere on the building. Check in was between 6pm and 9pm which makes it very difficult for people who arrive early (fortunately we had a car so were able to leave our things in there while we explored the city). The listing on booking.com stated there was parking but again the location of the car park was unclear. We ended up parking on the street free of charge anyway. When we finally managed to check in, the “receptionist” (not sure of his role) informed us of the $250 (!!!) deposit which was not on booking.com. We reluctantly paid and he said it would be refunded when we check out. This was actually refunded almost 6 weeks later. He then used his iPhone to take a picture of the credit card, our ID and our faces!! I asked why he needed this and he just said for security. Strange. Once checked in, he took us up and into our room, again not used to this in a hotel. No tv as promised but we didn’t mind. The room had an adjoining room with a missing door, covered by a divider. He said “not to worry” about it. I had a peek over and it looked as though someone was living in there (mattress on the floor, empty bottles etc). I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. We only stayed 2 nights and if we were able to get a refund we wouldn’t have stayed at all. My advice would be spend a little more money and get a real hotel that is safe and as promised. Some positives - good location, comfy bed, hot powerful shower, ok WiFi.

The professionalism of this hotel is awful. They asked 70$ for the cleaning fee but they never come to clean the place. I asked for a clean towel and they never answered. The person who took us to re room told us that nobody would have been in the hotel during the day but if we were to need assistance we had to text a number he gave us. The problem? They never answer, you can’t call them cause the number goes directly to voicemail. The windows are forced, and there’s no surveillance at any moment. The place smells like smoke everywhere! Awful service, stinky place. I won’t come if I were you. Don’t trust the pictures you find online

If I could give "no star" I would. The pictures on the hotel website are not the same picture as to what your room will look like. I booked a 3 week stay online with hotel protection insurance. When I arrived, I asked to see my room before I fully checked in. The room was dirty, disgusting, and unaccommodating. There were bugs across the floor, there was no tile or carpet on the inside floor at all. The floor was stained with old glue, and dirt. The floor was not level so it's easy to fall and trip. There was a closet door against partial of the window that was used for a window shade. The beds were stained and yellowish-tint. The smoke detector had wires coming out the side. The window had no screen which was unsafe for small children. I asked for another room which was denied. I asked for a refund which was denied. I advised one of the owners that I will be calling the health department and the city code enforcement. I walked out and left.

This is clearly one of the better budget hotels and even better than a lot of 3-star hotels in the middle of nowhere I’ve stayed in before. Finding something at this price rage anywhere in the greater LA area is next to impossible. This one is even in Beverly Hills!! The management and staff is really friendly and helpful. And yes, there’s a $250 deposit and a $70 cleaning fee but you’ll get the deposit back (not a scam!) and even with the fee included it’s an amazing deal for what you’ll get. The rooms are nice, clean and really large. I’m happy with the service and I’ve enjoyed my stay!

This place is a scam. When we arrived, they took a picture of us and our credit card numbers for their "security deposit". We never got the money back. Also, they are people making loud noises in the corridors all night long. There is no one at the reception to watch out. Besides that we had cockroaches in our room, see picture in my profile.

I honestly don't know how this place even has one star except for that its mandatory to put it. Biggest reason for my rating: 1) Hidden fees make this NOT a cheap option 2) Terrible rooms and service 3) Feels unsafe, always loud noises, and cops are often doing their rounds. Usually I am not one to write reviews unless they are for amazing places that I'd like people to know about. This is the complete opposite. I highly recommend checking out other budget-friendly options before coming here. First off, its not even a cheap option. There have been multiple accounts in these reviews of people paying a $250 deposit and never getting reimbursed. I sadly am one of those people too. I am typically fair minded when it comes to negotiating on price, so I was not afraid of the deposit because I assumed I would get it back. Still not the case. There's definitely not much to trust with practices like this. Second, the room and service was horrible. I don't want to post pictures for fear of them knowing who wrote this review. (They have all of my information so I'd rather be safe than sorry.) Bedsheets, towels, floors - all dirty. I called to get replacements - never got an answer. Third, there's just a bad vibe / energy / air about the place. I stayed for 2 nights and either saw or heard things I was not comfortable with. I am by no means a prude or easily scared. Plus its LA, so obviously things like weed and alcohol are a given. But it was more than that. Multiple times throughout the day and night. People yelling racist stuff, cars honking outside for tenants to meet them, verbal arguments (one almost got physical)...among other lowkey things that I was not 100% aware of -- it just felt off. Plus I think the local police know that weird things have been going on here, so I saw them often making rounds in their cars. Some people may feel safer because of that...I did not. I'm sure most tenants thought it was bad. This is probably the biggest reason why I would suggest not going for most people. It doesn't feel like a safe environment, so now I want to change all the info this "hotel" has on me. Lesson learned for me. Hope this helps others.
