My family and I recently had the joy of staying at Between Beaches, and I must say, it surpassed all our expectations! As someone who grew up in Homer, I've always cherished exploring Kachemak Bay. But discovering Between Beaches was a whole new experience – it’s a gem that both visitors and locals should not miss. Kristi and her crew have infused each cabin with so much attention to detail and love, creating a truly magical atmosphere. We had the delightful opportunity to invite friends over who joined us on their boat, turning our stay into an unforgettable gathering. I wholeheartedly recommend Between Beaches to everyone, whether you're visiting for the first time or you're a longtime local. It's an experience you won't forget!
I was so lucky to be able to spend many weekend at Between Beaches this year and have never experienced such a beautiful place before! You are constantly reminded throughout you day by an eagle overhead or an otter out in the bay! Paddle boarding through the bay on a beautiful calm summer day with crystal clear water down to the star fish is something I can never forget! I highly recommend this to anyone looking to enjoy the beauty of Alaska along with incredible experiences like sitting in a wood fired hot tub looking out over the ocean to a sunset over volcanoes.
This was a perfect spot to decompress after a hectic phase at work. The long beach in front of the cabin is an easy walk and ends at a rocky outcrop where four eagles circled overhead and otters and seals played in the waves. The front view across the bay to Homer changed constantly , sometimes clearing up to reveal the majestic range of volcanos far in the distance. The bay side of the spit was quieter with a view across to a closer mountain range , and a gathering spot for groups of otters and ducks of all kinds. I highly recommend this for anyone wanting to reconnect with nature …. the sauna and hot tub with a view over the waves are not to be missed !
Liked it so much that i returned for a second stay at Between Beaches. Friendly staff, beautiful setting on a narrow spit of land. Lagoon on one side teaming with wildlife like birds, clams and otters. Other side is open ocean beach with seals and salmon cruising just offshore. Interesting Alaskan artifacts scattered around the premises and inside the cabins. Cabins all the amenities. Fun beach combing for shells and other finds. At night the lagoon water lights up (glows) when walking in the water at the shoreline.
An absolutely amazing place, stunning views of the mountains and ocean. There was incredible wildlife. We saw wales, porpoise, sea otters and bald eagles regularly even saw the northern lights the last night of our stay! The host is super friendly and helpful with all of our needs, 10/10, would recommend and will definitely be back next summer.
Amazing location, friendly and hospitable staff and lots of fish! Stayed in the Cannery cabin. Lovely, cosy cabin which was spotlessly clean. An unreal location for fishing, kayaking and spotting wildlife. We saw bald eagles galore, porpoise, whales and bears. Would highly recommend a stay here, enjoy the good fishing, friendly staff and the peace and quiet.
Your trip will start with a breathtaking water taxi ride from Homer. I was blown away by all the wildlife and mountain scenery. We saw whales, otters, eagles, and seals. Loved seeing the crabbing boat from the Deadliest Catch , the Time Bandit, docked on Homer.||When you get to MacDonald spit you’ll understand why everyone give this place 5 stars, it’s like no other place in Alaska and worth every penny. The most surreal scenery right out your door. Ocean views from your windows. Art infused everywhere. Helpful staff. Cozy, rustic decor. Everything you need to cook or grill, just bring your groceries from Homer. ||Plan your trip around the minus tides to get the best tidepooling where you can find sand dollars, sea stars, octopus, sea anemones, and so much more. Walk down to red rock to see the most beautiful rock|Formations at the end of the spit .||We also loved taking the land taxi into Seldovia (15min ride). Plan to walk about 1/2mile from cabin to road and bring something to put berries in. In August the salmon berries were pooping! In Seldovia, we enjoyed watching people fish from the bridge, the cute shops and restaurants and the small grocery store. ||We took a halibut charter out of Seldovia. Wish we would have tried halibut fishing from the kayaks at Bewteen Beaches as someone caught a very large fish that way while we where there. ||Can’t wait to return! Maybe for 4th of July next year as Seldovia throws the best celebration for the 4th
A great friend of mine has been telling me about Between Beaches for years and her love of the place. My schedule finally worked out for me to visit this slice of Alaska heaven during the Fourth of July weekend, and I immediately fell in love as well. Between Beaches is located on the MacDonald Spit between Kasitsna Bay and Kachemak Bay near the city of the Seldovia. It is a short water taxi ride from the city of Homer with some of the most breathtaking scenery you could imagine. The owner, Kristi, and her staff are very attentive to the needs of their guest and offer a warm Alaska welcome and hospitality during your stay at Between Beaches. Many times they went above and beyond any expectations I would have to make my stay what I had dreamed of before visiting here. There are several different options for lodging during your stay from an adorable dry cabin, lovely cabins with all the amenities, and a stunning beach house with a separate guest cabin for those needing more space. There is also a sauna and hot tub that face out to the pristine Kachemak Bay. Sometimes, you may even be able to spot whales while you’re taking a hot tub or sauna! Kayaks and row boats are included with your reservation. Plus there is bird viewing (tons of eagles!!), hiking, wildlife viewing (so many otters!!) tide pooling, beach combing, beach fishing…the list of activities to do while you are here literally goes on and on. After your activities of the day, and you’re ready to wind down and relax with your favorite beverage, Kristi’s touches around the property as an accomplished artist are apparent everywhere you look. I never grew tired of looking at all the neat touches from her artist’s eye that makes this place truly unique when it comes to Alaska lodges. This place should be top on your list of places to visit and stay in Alaska whether you are a visitor or a born and bred Alaskan! Thank you Kristi and staff for an amazing Fourth of July weekend!!!
