Best Western Plus Pioneer Park Inn - Hotel in Fairbanks - 1908 Chena Landings Loop, USA

The room looked pretty clean and was actually very spacious. The main issue we had was that the airport shuttle service apparently is no longer in service (unsure if this is a seasonal thing or permanent). Also despite already paying in full ahead of time, there was a $100 deposit required at the beginning of our stay. The front desk clerk said that it would be refunded 1-3 days after check out. The breakfast bar did include scrambled eggs, hash browns, bacon, and an assortment of cereal and bread / pastry options which was nice. One of the main bonuses was the location being walkable to Pioneer Park and The Alaska Salmon Bake.

We stayed here for just one night as a transit point between Denali and the Richardson Highway and exploring downtown Fairbanks. ||The room was the best we've stayed on our Alaska trip and the amenities were elevated. There was a free breakfast too and that was great to have. The hotel has a pool as well, but didn;t bother swimming because I was just exhausted. ||That evening though, I decided to walk around the area, and the river bridge was just across the road and went there and saw a bit of nearby Pioneer Park too! Happy to have woken up at like 2:45 am and turns out it was the sunrise. So that was a nice treat!

Rooms were very nice. Comfortable bed. NO SHUTTLE service. If you want shuttle service stay at the other Best Western in town. Our train got in late from Denali and there were no taxis to be had. There was a BW shuttle but not for our hotel. We were told the new owner cancelled the contract with the shuttle and was not affiliated with the other BW. Breakfast was okay. The poor lady cooking the food and cleaning up was run ragged. She was very nice.

This was a terrible experience . We arrived exhausted after 12 hours of travel. We were initially told that they offered free shuttle to and from that airport. They did not so we had to pay $50.00 in addition to the over $200 rate per night to get to and from the airport. They did not bother to update any of their literature or advertising. The young man who checked us in was totally checked out and acted like our arrival was the worst news of his life. The lobby did not look at all like the photos on the web. It was cramped and aging with passive aggressive notes and messages posted everywhere directed at the guests. We got in the room which to be fair was clean and quite large. It was very hot and stuffy but the AC only seemed to blow hot air. The hot water worked but was extremely difficult to turn on, the faucet handle was messed up. I didn’t even bother asking the front desk I’m sure he wouldn’t have been any help. I finally shut the air off completely and opened the window. Early in the morning the girl at the front desk gave me a fan, but no apology or discount for the hot room. The free breakfast was terrible in a tiny cramped area with people all on top of each other. It seems as if the management knows about all the problems but doesn’t care and has given up. I’m generally pretty understanding about staffing issues etc but for the price this was unacceptable to me. The website is misleading and looks far better than the actual hotel.

Nice and clean rooms. The breakfast area was quite small and with a small window for breakfast it added to the experience of a cramped space. The selection of food items was much less than at the other 3 Best Western locations we stayed at previous days. The person managing the breakfast area was fast, efficient and did her very best to replenish items. The front desk was super helpful and accommodating. We definitely felt valued as guests. I love to swim as an exercise but I didn't like that the pool was right by the front entrance and in bright view of everyone. But that's a personal preference. At least the property had a pool. Big plus for me.

The staff was very accommodating. I asked if I could check out 15 minutes later then check out time and they had no problem allowing me to do that. I ended up being almost 30 minutes past check out once I was done getting ready to attend a friend's funeral service and got all my stuff out of the room and to the car, and the staff was very gracious and kind about allowing me to check out 30 mins later.

As many places are experiencing, this hotel has a shortage of housekeeping staff. This would probably explain the dirty carpets and food residue under the foot stool. The staff, however, take the time to fold the towels in a fancy way and of course fold the toilet paper into a triangle (I hate that). But there was no soap at the sink and when I asked, they said it was because of the staff shortage. One time is excusable but I returned about a week later and still no soap. They said we should use the soap in the dispenser on the wall in the shower. But mine was empty and it is in a separate room from the sink.||The breakfast was okay. Better than some. |The bed was comfortable. |The room was sprayed with something overpowering. I needed to open the windows to try to air it out.|

We reserved 5 days to finish our 3 week Alaska adventure. The price was reasonable compared to some of the other options in Fairbanks.|It was off the beaten path, quite yet still close to everything.|Checking in was easy and quick. Was told that they were short staffed so there would be no housekeeping unless we needed something. My room was right where I requested, first floor near an exit. The only problem, it was next to the mechanical room, ice machine and vending machines. The noise never stopped.|I put the tv on to minimize the noise. That didn’t work since the tv had no sound. Maintenance was requested. He said there were new owners and suggested to put the closed caption on. Huh? So no news or weather reports.|2 out of 5 days my room key didn’t work and had to be rekeyed. That was annoying.|Breakfast was a different variety everyday. The little room was always packed so I ate in my room each morning. |The pool was open, but never had a chance to utilize it.|This hotel could be great if they put a little work into it. And new TVs.
