Best Western Marina State Beach - Featured Reviews (1051)
The location of the hotel was perfect. The rooms were updated which was nice. But you could tell some things were broken, like light switches and faucets. Definitely needed to redo the bathroom as it smelled like mold and our shower and floor had cracks in it. The walls are super super thin. We were kept up by yelling individuals two nights in a row until 2am. We never had room service come to our room, they only spoke Spanish and it was extremely hard to communicate. I suggest bringing your own towels cause they always ran out of clean towels. The staff in the office were extremely friend and tried to help out as much as possible, but again room service sucked. When we arrived the room was clean at least. I was disappointed to see so many dogs were there yet online it said no pets. I would have loved to bring our family dog especially seeing as he's a companion dog for us with my disabilities. We'd stay there again only mainly cause of the location was in perfect distance to the beach, town and monterey bay aquarium, plus the food was good.
Nice property. Very close to beach, easy freeway access. Nice hot breakfast. Clean room. Not much else you need! We visited Monterey during car week, which meant all rooms sold out there. Marina is an easy drive to/from Monterey, so we were able to do all our activities as usual. Helpful front desk staff.
Badly needs maintenance on so many things, shower bathtub fills up despite plug not being pushed down, door frame busted and cracked - you could rip it off by hand if you pulled on the extra safety lock. Stains and marks on walls, poorly functioning soap dispensers in showers - not to mention it being the tiniest bathroom in a hotel I’ve ever seen and I’ve stayed in cheaper motels in bad areas. Thin walls so you can hear people inside and outside usually so not good if a light sleeper. *Awfully managed* free breakfast with zero staff assisting in the massive line and poor crowded layout - someone assaulted my husband and cursed out the rest of the lobby for having to wait in line. That’s what ultimately brings this down to a 1 star. Miserable experience for how much money was spent on the one night stay. What happened to Best Western?
This place was a nightmare! Paid $1850 for 2 rooms 4 nights. We were given dirty floor mats for the bathroom. Television did not work for 2 days of our stay. Mini fridge leaked water all over the floor. House keeping did not come for 2 days until we asked then they showed up at 6 p.m. vending machines did not work and the area where vending was located was full of spider webs in the doorway. The fire pits do not work unless you have your own torch 1 of the 2 will work. But you need your own lighting mechanism. Was also told hotel had no hot water cause house keeping was doing laundry. Maintenance mentioned big inspection coming up. However dont think they can get this place up to par before then. The only thing about this place that was good was it was close to my personal destination.
Positive: The hotel was right off the freeway. Close to shopping. And walking distance to the state beach. Staff was great parking was easy. Room was clean. Negative: We have stayed her twice. The only problem with this hotel is the walls and floors are thin. My first stay I was on the second floor. I got a call to have my kids stop playing. Second time I picked bottom floor and I could hear the up stairs ppl laughing
I have now stayed here twice and realize it is the best option for us for price vs quality. The area is a little more on the pricy side for a decent stay if you are visiting a student at the college or other reason to be in the area.
The hotel itself is basic, the continental breakfast is good with actual hot tray items like eggs, potatoes, biscuits and gravy. The menu changes depending on the day.
Rooms are average with decent amount of ports for charging electronics. The shades are nice for a darker room and our ac/heat unit worked great. Beds are okay but nothing over the top comfortable to boast about.
Area is nice with the Marina State Beach within walking distance. Walmart just down the road and close to CSUMB. Parking lot for the hotel is a little tight. Some spots it is even hard to get a small car parked in between other vehicles. You are right off the Pacific Coast Highway so the noise is a little more then some may be used to.
If you want a hotel bedroom close to the Dover ferry terminal, this hotel meets the bill. There is loads of metered car parking space on the street in front of the hotel. Bedroom was large and had a good view of the sea front and the ferries arriving and departing Dover harbour. The restaurant provide a better than expected evening meal and the breakfast was reasonable. Although the hotel was busy, the reception was efficient with minimal queuing.
I had to arrange a place to have my family’s celebration dinner for my Mom’s passing. We wanted it near the beach. I picked the best western at Marina out of the blue because it was near the water and my mom‘s favorite place. Shelly, the hotel manager help me make arrangements for 5 rooms near each other. I explained I wanted to bring in food and we wanted to eat and she opened up the lobby dining room to our family. she was very helpful & her staff was extremely helpful and making sure we had everything we needed. They were very patient with their children and grandchildren, our families need to be together and an extraordinary woman that we lost. They were kind and compassionate and I just can’t thank them enough for making this such a wonderful experience for my family.
We have visited here many times. However, this is our first time back since the pandemic. We would have returned earlier. However, the prices have almost doubled. What once was somewhat expensive ($400/night on a weekend) for an Ocean Front Jr. S
We went on Saturday, December 16, 2023. A rare opportunity and a new way to enjoy the coastal views! We saw a local news story and checked it out because locals usually don't do tourist stuff. Electric assist pedaling was super easy and staff very n
