Best Western Lapeer Inn - Hotel in Lapeer - 770 West St, USA

We have stayed here many times. the amenities are a plus, The restaurant/bar has closed, hopefully it will be open again soon. They are located so that they are very close to many restaurants and shopping. Not terribly expensive. they do not have an elevator so you might make sure your room is o a lower level..

.We choose this hotel every year because of the friendly staff and cleanliness of the hotel. The breakfast was delicious. There is a workout room, hot tub, pool, a few arcade games, air hockey and a pool table. Something for everyone to enjoy.

I wish I could rate this place zero stars because that was my experience. Please choose the Holiday Inn Express if you go to Lapeer instead. On top of having a better stay, you’ll have better customer service too. I stayed one night and that was far too long. The room smelled musty, there was a cobweb by the window, and the shower curtain smelled awful too. There was a hair between the hair dryer and the wall mount. I never used the hair dryer. The worst part was that I woke up with a rash due to whatever cleaning products were (or were not) used to clean the bed and linens. I planned on staying two nights, plus another night later in the week, but I left that morning. I requested a refund for the night I stayed because I needed to go to urgent care and get medicine. This forced me to lose time from my work day and caused unnecessary stress. Management refused my request.

With Best Western, you either get a really nice hotel or a really old hotel, this one is the latter. It is secure, rooms are behind a locked door, even from the lobby. Rooms are clean, but show lots of age since the last remodel. Breakfast is OK, with microwaved eggs, sausage, sausage and biscuit gravy, waffles and other pre packaged stuff. Overall, this is a good hotel when you need one in a pinch, but not worth the higher prices. The Bar seems to be closed permanently.

We stayed 3 nights for a wedding in the area. We had several pieces of luggage and you’d think a hotel like this would have an elevator. Think again. Steps were steep and the carpet on them was filthy. Our room smelled musty/stale smoke and had to purchase air fresheners. After the first 2 nights we asked our room be cleaned and new towels, we came back to find it hadn’t. Shower didn’t drain either and although some features seemed updated, there were several that weren’t. It was a disappointment after seeing the pictures online and booking. Would not recommend staying.

My husband and I stayed here, in a king suite for a family reunion. My husband noticed a big bug on the bed and flicked it off the bed and I asked him to kill it because now I'll be wondering where it's at. So he grabbed his phone and turned the flashlight on. At first he could find the bug because it blended in with the carpet. As he's looking he flashed his light underneath the nightstand on the side of the bed. There he found animal feces. He took pics of it and also of the bug he found in the same area. We discretely told the lady at the front desk and showed her the pic. We didn't want to cause any trouble because there was another couple checking in. Normally we would have asked for a different room or left. But there was no where else to go. All hotels where full in the area. I was told I was getting a discount. I found out today it was 10%. In my opinion, absolutely not enough. It was clearly there for a while so it makes me.think the rooms aren't really "cleaned". I will not be staying there again.

Pros: the breakfast buffet was generally very good (exception: the cereal in the dispensers was stale). Most of the staff were friendly and helpful (with one exception - see below).||||Cons: ||Both queen beds in the room were uncomfortable the likes of which I’ve never seen before in a hotel. There were dents and lumpy portions such that a comfortable position was impossible. ||The bathroom smelled strongly of mold. I cleaned it myself and it still smelled of mold. ||The mini-fridge is very poor quality because the freezer and fridge share one compartment. This setup forces you to choose between having a freezer or a fridge. If you put it on a very cold setting for the freezer to be effective then the food in the fridge portion also freezes. If you set it on a middle or low setting the fridge is great but the freezer is useless it isn’t cold enough. The obvious solution is to get the mini-fridges that have a separate opening for the freezer and for the fridge. It’s not much more expensive and it makes a ton of difference.||I was asked by front desk staff to allow carpet cleaners into my room during my stay to clean the carpet requiring me to stay off the carpet for the day and tolerate industrial fans blowing like a whirlwind in the room. You must be f’king kidding me. No. Just no. Get your act together and do it after the guest leaves. It was unacceptable and I wrote to Best Western Corporate about it and heard nothing back. Shoddy customer service. ||Generally the staff was great BUT the night employee Crystal (spelling?) is an obnoxious bigot and does the Best Western brand a disservice. She spoke at length to me about how she hates people who receive disability benefits from the government. Well I happen to be one such person and I found her beliefs, attitudes and behaviors to constitute harassment. Her extreme hateful alt-right political views have no place in the workplace. I witnessed her be degrading to guests at the front desk, rolling her eyes behind their backs and otherwise dehumanizing them. People like her have been programmed to hate by their culture and news media, in this sense they are like children who know no better. In time I believe she has the capacity to learn that compassion and a sense of responsibility toward one another is a higher calling than hatred and derision. But I am shocked that Best Western tolerates hatefulness in their employees and I have spread the word about the vomiting of alt-right political propaganda from the front desk at a Best Western to everyone I know. ||||Overall I thought Best Western was better than this and it made me rethink my decision to choose Best Western over the Holiday Inn that was right across the street.

Waited 15 minutes in the lobby before desk staff showed up. Room reeked of cigarettes and weed. Found a half smoked fresh joint on the floor of my room. When addressed with the front desk, it didn't seem to surprise them. Was moved to a different room that was literally next door to my previous one, and smelled just as nasty. Breakfast options limited, including old fruit and stale bakery items. At checkout, another desk employee made me aware that finding weed and cigarette smell is a common occurrence. Worst hotel experience in my life.
