Loved the play "Cult of Love"! And Michael's bar has been redecorated. It's now so attractive & comfy. The staff is very helpful & welcoming.
Excellent and memorable performances in every play. Comfortable theater, small enough to where every seat has a good view.
The facility is fantastic and the performance and production values are top notch. But the current production of "Swept Away" features a paper-thin plot devoid of drama or emotion, which is especially perplexing since it is loosely based on a true story that is filled with more than its share of drama and twists and turns. It is still quite enjoyable in a 'listening to an Avett Brothers cover band' type of way but could/ should have been so much more.
I went to this theater a year before the pandemic started to watch the Tale of Despereaux by PigPen Theater Group. I remember the weekend for the last shows in the Roda Theatre. I hope to return to see another show again soon.
The current season has been quite enjoyable. Every seat is a good seat. They have nice intermission concessions too.
Wow, 1984.. Berkeley Rep clearly doesn't understand the Cochrane report on the futility of masks. It's 2024, wake up and move on. If you don't feel safe from your 5th booster, maybe you should just not leave your house!
My family has been seeing more shows at Berkeley Rep this year. They regularly debut new shows and many of them are very good. We really enjoyed "Kiss My Aztec" and "Goddess". "Cambodian Rock Band" was good but not great.
The venue requires that everyone wear a mask when inside. Compliance seems good. The seats are comfortable. The theater is a very good place to see a show. Even the cheap seats are pretty good.
Best theater in the Bay for innovative and gripping plays. I attend nearly each production of five different theaters, and Berkeley Rep has quickly become my favorite. They have a high bar for writing and acting. Their shows are very distinct from each other in content and feel. The sets are meticulously crafted. Their use of sound and lighting is innovative and often critical to the action rather than merely accompanying it.
