BenReuben's Knishery - Restaurant in South Portland - 145 Ocean St, USA

This is now one of my favorite places in South Portland. It has a very homey feel to it. You can find public parking nearby. Ask the folks about the stained glass for a cool story. Very nice and informative staff. Very accommodating, too! I've never had a knish before going to this establishment - and they are absolutely delicious. So far, I've liked or loved everything I've had. Their zesty pickles are STRONG. You've been warned. They let us try it for free before buying one which was very nice! I love their signature Ben Reuben knish the most. The meat is very tender and moist. The bread isn't soggy from the moist filling. They give you a choice of which sauce you would like to go with your knish. They also have sandwiches which are very good - their Reuben is probably one of the best I've ever had. It felt like I was back in NYC around Houston street. Definitely stop by or order online from them if you can.

HELLO I'm soooo happy I found this place!! I never knew what a Knish was - a bread filled with delicious stuffings of various flavors?! YES PLEASE! So I tried the chicken curry which was the daily special, the BenReuben with pastrami (stupid good) and the cream cheese potato goodness (maybe my favorite?) We also got a ton of different sauces and I was super surprised how much I loved the salmon one. We also got a side of roasted beets that were perfectly done, and some sweet treats! This is definitely going to be in our regular rotation, I'm already thinking of all the places these will be super easy to pack and bring this summer. Beach trips, quick eat in the car days etc. Oh AND a nice, engaging owner as the cherry on top? I wish places like this were as common as the starbucks on every corner, this is what we need more of!

The knish was DELISH! We tried three different ones and all were yummy. The owner was super nice and helped pick out what sauces pair well with each knish. We took a few home to warm up later and still delicious! Go here!

Graham and his staff went far above and beyond for our family. On not even 48 hours notice, they produced a Shiva meal that was phenomenal and brought both comfort and delight. And that’s not including the rave reviews for the food! Brisket that melted in your mouth, terrific chicken for the non-beef eaters, sides that were the epitome of comfort food, and amazing knishes. Part of the above and beyond was doing a sloppy joe knish, which had been a family favorite of much of the family as children. This was a meal that everyone enjoyed, that brought us closer together over fond memories, and brought comfort after a sudden and traumatic loss. There are no words, or certainly not enough of them, for Graham’s kindness and generosity. Not to mention his staff, who helped deliver this incredible meal on such short order. I cannot recommend BenReubens Knishery more highly. Thanks and gratitude are not enough for all you all did at such a challenging time.

First of all, they’re so friendly and excited to be there! The person who helped us made great suggestions and was very patient while we debated. We ended up with two knishes and a pickle. The everything with potato and cream cheese was good and I like that they come with sauces.

BenReuben’s Knishery makes the most spectacular, comforting, elevated Ashkenazi Jewish food. Their rugelach is flakey, tangy, not too sweet and indulgent. The spinach potatoes taste like my great grandmother’s finest cooking. Their harissa roasted chickpeas and cauliflower is beautifully spiced, their knishes are crisp and delicious, their pickles are crunchy and delightfully zesty. BenReuben’s Shabbat dinners come with simple instructions for reheating that take the pressure off cooking for busy families. Go order from them, your whole family will thank you.

Absolutely delicious foods. Every single item I ordered was the best I have ever tried. I even cried at how delicious my sandwich was. I got rugelach, hamentaschen, macaroons, a corned beef and pastrami sandwich, and one of each knish. My only regret is that I don't live anywhere near this place. Graeme is so nice to talk to and I loved all the old photo of his family.
