This is an extraordinary Inn any time of the year. I was fortunate enough to be there when the Inn was splendidly decorated for Christmas. The chef |Provides a wide variety of delicious breakfasts, tailored to every guest’s needs…I was there with a very picky vegetarian! The guest rooms are each uniquely decorated and the common areas are perfect for cocktails or morning coffee. It is within easy walking distance to a picturesque downtown. ||
There is only one word to describe the Belle Oaks Inn B&B in Gonzales, Texas...amazing! The exterior and structure of the house are amazing! The grounds are amazing! The each room in the interior of the house is amazing! The furnishings and artifacts in each room are amazing...many are unique and antique historical items! The hosts Monica and Rob are amazing...very welcoming, friendly, helpful, informative, and accommodating! The breakfasts that chef trained Monica prepares are amazing! The location is perfect for walking into the center of Gonzales. We truly felt like we had stepped back in time!
Everything was perfect! Rob and Monica make you feel at home. They are both so welcoming and kind. Monica's breakfasts are amazing. We also did the private dinner, and it did not disappoint. Everything was perfect our entire stay. I wouldn't change a thing! Inn is absolutely beautiful and well maintained. Hands down best B&B I've stayed at ever!
Wonderful stay at this palatial property. The view from the outside is of a grand private residence that looks stunning with it's wrought iron gates, long driveway and well manicured gardens. We were greeted warmly by host Rob, who we asked to give a brief history of the property and Rob gave us all the essential info. A brief tour of this grand house, again at our request, & we saw all the period pieces accumulated by the current owners, all kept in great condition. It was like walking into a living house from times gone by, but with modern amenities, microwave, fully stocked kitchen etc. The room itself was a grand period piece, the room full of lovely old pictures in gilded frames, a massive beautiful bed with present day bathroom and TV, coffee maker and fridge. Snacks and cold drinks in the host were welcomed, if not used. You can sit on a lovely communal large balcony at the front of the house in the evening and relax to the sounds of the local birds. Breakfast was freshly cooked by Robs partner Monica, and it was a real treat. Great home cooked food to start the day. A walk around the rear of the property in the morning gave us a chance to look at more lovely greenery and a small pool. Check out was easy and the hosts personally saw us off with a smile and warm wishes. We would highly recommend this property.
To call this Inn "unexpected" is an understatement. Despite its key place in Texas history, the town of Gonzales is, well, not much to see. I chose to stay in Gonzales because it was strategically located half way between where I live and where my partner was staying for an extended period. So we agreed to meet in Gonzales to literally "meet in the middle." ||I looked up hotels in Gonzales hoping I'd at least find a La Quinta or similar. Lo and behold, the Belle Oaks Inn showed up in my search. The photos made it look beautiful and that seemed like a lovely place to stay, so I booked a room. I could not have done better had there been a Ritz Carlton in Gonzales. ||The rooms are lovely. Each is decorated differently, so you need to look through the photos to choose a room. Every room has an en-suite bath, and the ground floor room (the one we had) has a jetted tub which was very nice. That room is huge, with chairs and a settee. The other rooms, upstairs, are lovely too but not quite as big. There is an amazing collection of antiques and art displayed throughout the Inn. The pride of ownership fairly glows here.||The amenities are very nice. Big fluffy towels. Available robes. Bath salts for the tub. A mini refrigerator stocked with some sodas and water. A microwave and of course a TV. The linens were nice, and there was a selection of pillows so you can find the firmness/malleability you prefer. They turned down the bed while we were out to dinner. ||The grounds include a pool which, in August, was nicely warm. Almost too warm; although at night that was very nice. There are not that many rooms, and so we had the pool to ourselves. There is also a pond with a fountain and reeds, that sounds to be well stocked with frogs! The rest of the grounds are lovely, with great old oak trees, manicured lawns, etc. A lot of work must go into maintaining these grounds. In cooler months, sitting on the verandah would be a charming way to spend some time.||In the morning, you will enjoy a proper gourmet breakfast. We had a fine time chatting with a newlywed couple from Louisiana. One gets the impression that a lot of their visitors are from out of state. ||An important intangible thing about finding this little oasis in Gonzales: because there is really not much else to do in Gonzales, coming here and staying in this little gem of an inn affords a couple the opportunity to really concentrate on each other, and pay each other their full attention, in a way that would not realistically be possible in a bigger town with more distractions. If you are a couple in need of that time alone, you cannot do better than a stay at the Belle Oakes Inn. ||I will also put in a word for a local restaurant, the Gonzales Bistro, just off the town square. This unassuming little place is entirely out of place in Gonzales. The food is properly gourmet and the wine list is simply phenomenal. Both Chateau Lafite Rothschild *and* Chateau Mouton Rothschild on the list, for example. I think they have a version of that list on line if you are curious. They told us they had won an award for their wine list and I absolutely believe that. It's a short walk from the Inn to that restaurant, although wince it was 104 in August we drove it. 😂|
The level of hospitality is the best. You could not ask for better host. As we arrived on Memorial Day and all the local restaurants were closed the host graciously offered to go to the store and cook us dinner. How wonderful is that. What a marvelous step back in time, from the parlor to the library to the rooms. All kept up to the highest of standards but still warm and cozy to make you feel at home. The grounds are so beautiful and the prefect place for relaxing. We met some wonder guest as well on our stay. We plan to go back on our next visit to Texas.
What an awesome, beautiful, and comfortable place to spend a 36th anniversary! Thank you for making a special! Definitely recommend the Belle for any special occasion!
Gonzales is a history-rich town with wonderful historic homes and Belle Oaks Inn is at the top of the list. If you love stepping back in history, then you don't want to miss this one. Rob greeted us and enthusiastically provided a detailed history of the home and gave us a tour of the home and grounds. We stayed in the Boothe room located on the ground floor that had beautiful furnishings and a huge jacuzzi tub. Pampered by chef-prepared breakfasts were the ultimate. Blueberry scones were the best we ever had. (Thank you Monica!) The home is filled with beautiful antiques and the library offers quiet time. The grounds are rich with massive live oak trees and magnolia trees. We sat on the wrap around porch to enjoy listening to the birds singing while taking in the beauty of the grounds. The Gonzales driving tour with well-placed signs is a must so you can see all the majestic homes by car. We loved the small town feel of Gonzales with its multiple town squares. (There are seven of them!) Great antique stores and wonderful restaurants were a delight. We felt pampered by Rob and Monica's hospitality and we plan on returning!
