Beachcomber Inn - Featured Reviews (75)
Great value. Clean. Heater wasn't coming on and attendant promptly brought a floor heater. The heater began to warm the room after a half hour and he said they will fix it. Very very helpful. Gave us a huge room with 3 beds whe we had only requested two beds at no extra cost!
This is an iconic little 'last of the little inns'!||It is run family style, and is an older building, so a bit 'tired'..but it's well worth the price you pay. it's the least expensive lodging in Pacific Grove. ||It is a one minute walk to the dunes of Asilomar Beach.. you hear the waves crashing at night. The rooms are simple and clean, there's a mini frig & t.v. Some rooms have a problem with hot water, so be sure to ask when booking/checking in. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but have their hands full with all that needs attending to in an older establishment...probably one of the last budget hotels on the edge of the sea!||||I suggest making sure the hot water IS working in the room you get. ||||They serve a lovely continental breakfast buffet...||including waffles, whipped cream, boiled eggs, granola & cereals, pastries/breads, yogurt, fresh fruit, and juices...and of course coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Quite an impressive spread. Without a doubt the best breakfast i've had in all budget hotels I have stayed in recently!||The location is dreamlike with the sound of the crashing waves, and the bagpiper each night over at Spanish Bay which is just around the corner (5 minute beach track).||The acclaimed Fishwife restaurant, adjacent to the inn.. is great. The drinks are well mixed, and the food is excellent. Try the New Zealand green lipped mussels in salsa & cream sauce. It's my favorite.||I highly recommend the Beachcomber Inn for its ambiance,||its proximity to the sea, and its kind and helpful staff.||||and some of the rooms have patios or balconies, and many of them have very 'tired' carpets. They clean them, but they are just old. Hopefully they'll be installing new carpet soon!||All in all it's a sweet little place to spend a restful time by the sea. Wifi is good, and included.
We have stayed at the Beachcomber many times over the past 20 years but not recently. Unfortunately it appears to be under new ownership. It was always a very old motel but was clean and had great breakfast offerings. It now is very poorly run with no regard to customer experience. We visited on the shoulder season but the office is locked most of the time and you have to track down a maintenance man to check in. There was a mixup on our room request that became critical as they expected three guests and only had three clean room and 23 not made up. They always asked in the morning if we wanted our room cleaned (something I had never heard before). It was cleaned but not until after 4 pm. When made up the room was clean but had ants and spiders in the bathroom. The breakfast is now just average. We had paid in advance for three nights and the last two nights we were the only guests there, so I assume the word has gotten out about the place. There are several other highly rated motels within a few blocks that we drove by and saw many cars in the parking lot. We checked on their rates and they were the same or less than the Beachcomber. The owners of the Beachcomber seem to be pinching pennies and do not care about the guest experience. Unfortunately we will not stay here in the future and nether should you.
If you are watching your pennies and you want a fabulous location, you can't beat this motel. There were five of us in two rooms and it was perfectly adequate. We had a couple of small problems that were quickly remedied. The staff was eager to please. The free breakfast had those great waffles one gets in a good motel. The restaurant on the property was good. The 5 minute walk to the beach was beautiful. Asilomar beach is very beautiful and the rocks bordering it are great for tide pools. Check when low tide is. Bring binoculars to look for sea otters in some of the kelp beds. It is fun to climb rocks and get great views of the crashing waves beneath you. It can get chilly at night so put warm clothes in your suitcase.
Previous reviews refer to the excellent location for this moderate motel. Rooms are very clean and comfortable but very sparse in decor. It takes one back to the motor lodges of the 1960's. Some upper floor rooms have partial ocean views -- delightful! Room #5 is cozy with a refrigerator and free wifi. The TV is quite dated -- waiting to die before it will be replaced by a flat screen, I think....||In keeping with water preservation so necessary on the Monterey Peninsula, toilets and faucets are very low-flow -- I always wonder how water is preserved when you have to run it longer to achieve your cleaning needs(?)||The queen-bedded room had an excellent bed!||Service was a bit slow at check-in and non-existent at check-out, in spite of ringing the little bell on the desk and shouting for someone to come out of the back. I literally could have walked off with everything in the breakfast room...! Complimentary breakfast was very substantial and always welcome when there is no coffee maker in the rooms.||||Overall I was quite comfortable without pre-conceived aspirations. Access to all of the wonderful sights and adventures outweighed any negative aspects of this motel.
The staff are nice but other than that this place is a dump! The rooms are tiny, they smell, there are stains all over the floor. I was afraid to even put my stuff on the bed for fear of bugs! The pool is closed due to federal regulations. The lobby/breakfast room smells like mildew ... i have nothing good to say about this place.. you can find much nicer places down the street that are just as close to the beach, and the same price..
Incredibly generous and kind staff.
Let me check out late, didn't charge me for modifying my reservation on short notice when they were able to fill the room. Yes the facilities are old but they are well maintained and the people here take pride in keeping up the place.
In short, I had a wonderful stay.
The minute you walk in you are pleasantly greeted with a smile by the young lady in the office. She gives you recommendations for things to do, places to go and restaurants to eat. This place could really use some updating and I was told that they are renovating slowly. Some rooms are renovated with new floors. And it's only few minutes walk to the beach.
This is a really cute little hotel. The people working there were friendly and helpful. The room was nice and clean. We enjoyed our stay, and it was so fun being able to walk right over to the monarch butterfly preserve. The location was perfect, clo
Wasn't sure what to expect, so I'm trying to give as detailed of a review as possible so that hopefully whoever sees it has a good idea of what they're paying for.
The rooms were smaller than expected. But if you're intending to be out the whole day
Great little B&B that is centrally located in Pacific Grove. Walking distance to cannery row, the aquarium and the monarch butterfly sanctuary.
The rooms were clean and everything worked well (for such an old house). We had no problems. There is a ni
A wonderful place to sit and reflect. The crashing waves are always intriguing. There is a path between several benches in the area. A great place to enjoy while on a coastal walk or bike ride.
