We loved our stay at Bay Meadow. We were in Laughing Gull which seemed to be larger than the other cottages. We had a room with a queen bed and a small desk, a galley kitchen with full sized refrigerator, stove, microwave, pour over coffee, and a small kitchen table. There was also a seating area with a futon and a chair; from what I can tell, this area along with the kitchen table accounts for the added space compared to other cottages. The bathroom is small but adequate. We stayed at the end of the season so it was chilly at night and the wall heaters kept us warm. |The barn at the back of the property always had a fire going and Kirsten was very helpful helping us plan our day around the MDI Marathon in Bar Harbor. The beach (part of the Bay Meadow property) is across the street and there are chairs to sit in to look out at the ocean and paddle boards to use (way too cold for us to brave). They even have beach towels in the rooms. Steve and Kirsten have thought of everything. The property is 5-10 minutes away from Bar Harbor and Acadia; very nice and quiet if that's your speed. |
Love this place! I’ll start by saying Steve and Kirsten welcome you in like family. We stayed during Hurricane Lee and they had the barn open with a fire going all day and kept checking in on all the cottages, often going out in the rain and wind to deliver items. Location is great, away from crowded Bar Harbor, but close enough if you want to venture into town. The cottages are cozy and clean. A small kitchen is perfect for cooking breakfast (bring in your own food) before heading out into the park. The 2 fire pits with free fire wood are a very nice touch. Staff is incredibly helpful with trail and restaurant suggestions (all of which were spot on). Check in and check out are super easy. Will hopefully be returning here sooner than later.
My husband and I stayed in a cabin here for Memorial Day weekend and we loved our time here so very much that we’ve already booked another stay for Memorial Day weekend of 2024. The cabins are small, but perfect for couples - typically I do like to have a living area separate from sleeping just because I’m a very early riser, but this still worked wonderfully and for the atmosphere and perks they provide, and the gorgeous bay view I’m okay with it. I just took my coffee across the little road and sat in an Adirondack chair to start my mornings. Make sure that you utilize all of Kirsten’s suggestions, because they are GOOD ones. All the restaurants she recommended that we visited were amazing and we went to a couple of them more than once. The breakfast sandwiches at Hull’s Cove General Store that Kirsten suggested were how we ended up starting every morning. And definitely do not skip the homemade blueberry pie & icecream! We cannot wait for our stay next year.
Totally cute comfortable cabins outside the hustle and bustle of downtown, yet close to everything. Great view, great bed, great sheets, and great coffee. They've done a really nice job of keeping the cabins classic while bringing them current. Totally cute. My only comment for other travelers, the age of the cabins means they are not ADA compliant. Could be a tight fit in the bathroom for some or those with mobility issues.
We absolutely loved Bay Meadow Cottages for our honeymoon! The Otter cottage was very comfortable and we loved the privacy! Kirsten and Steve were very helpful with local recommendations. We were able to get any and all supplies we needed from them or very close nearby. We loved the paddle boarding on-site and the close walk to the Island Explorer shuttle to get around the island. We highly recommend them!
We stayed five nights in the Laughing Gull at Bay Meadow Cottages, and we wish we had booked longer! The cottage was beautiful, clean, spacious, and well appointed with all the basic kitchen and bath amenities. The bed was easily one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept on. Right behind our cottage is the barn, where the office and espresso bar is. They do provide you with fresh, locally roasted coffee to brew yourself in your kitchen, but how convenient it was to be able to take a few steps and have a gourmet, expertly made cappuccino every morning. Next to the barn is a fridge where you have 24/7 access to blueberry pie and locally made ice cream, dangerously delicious and convenient! Steve and Kirsten made us feel right at home immediately. They both are so kind and welcoming, it was such a pleasure to chat with them every day. They offered tons of recommendations for places to eat, shop, hike. We love to cook while on vacation, so they set us up with an outdoor seafood cooker with large pots, which they then washed for us! The charcoal grill was also super convenient. The amenities they offer at Bay Meadow are incredible. On top of all the coffee, treats, cooking supplies, they also offer use of stand up paddle boards, firewood, sun screen and bug spray. We were pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get to just about anywhere on the island from the cottages. Ten minutes into Bar Harbor, and 10-25 minutes to really anywhere else, including so so many trailheads with beautiful hiking trails. I could go on and on about how much I loved our stay here. We will certainly be back!
Nostalgic cottages with everything you need. Clean, bright and welcoming accommodations. Reminds me of days spent at Great Grandmothers house in the country. Nice kitchenette equipped for easy breakfast or lunch prep. Great location to keep you close to everything with a short drive or bike ride. The view over the Bay is wonderful and a great sight to wake up with and wind down in the evenings. Well cared for grounds and little extras available at the barn to compliment your stay. Wish we could have stayed more than three nights.
Perfect location, easy drive for Acadia National Park or Bar Harbor. Rooms were neat and tidy, we made use of the provided personal charcoal grill one of our nights. Overall, everything we were hoping for. Wish we stayed longer! Will be back for sure.

Very homey and comfortable with a great breakfast. Stayed three nights and had a different breakfast each day. They have a hot water machine in the dining room and a comfortable living room to hang out in. Parking was large enough for a large jeep.
