The wildness of the forest is magnificent! Patches of the dense evergreen and birch forest are completely carpeted with moss. The rangers are helpful and attentive. They are friendly ambassadors while also regulation enforcers. We were excited to get a parking space at Roaring Brook Day Use area for our hike to the peak of Katahdin. The Chimney Pond-Saddle Trail (rated the least strenuous ascent) was brutal. Actually, the descent was worse in the torrential thunderstorm. But the view from the peak was magnificent! Pit toilets at Roaring Brook Campground and Chimney Pond were clean, well equipped, and well maintained. There is no potable water but lots of running streams. Just remember to filter or boil before drinking. The people who work there do their best to keep the park a remote natural preserve. Thank you, Baxter Park Service!

I loved Baxter State Park! The drive is gorgeous, take your time and drive safe, the road is narrow and passing oncoming traffic can be challenging at some spots. I didn't have enough time to spend here, the park is large and every trail we walked was worth it's time. $16 per car for cars with out of state plates.

This place was amazing. Took the whole loop by car and the section that is all gravel should really only be ~20mph. Had a bear walk out in front of us and the views are breathtaking. Worth the trip for sure!

Absolutely Beautiful, worth the drive . It is Remote and mostly no cell coverage, but would love to come back Here again. We hiked to Sandy Stream Pond and were lucky enough to see a moose enjoying the water. To my knowledge there are no pets allowed so keep that in mind when planning your trip

I will never understand why baxter park is barely known compared to the Acadia national park... maybe because it's so remote?.. Anyway, it is a good thing, that it's still a secret for most. As a whole, Maine is my happy place as a whole, but the baxter state park is it's soul. From Blueberry ledges, big and small Niagara falls to campgrounds of daicey pond and kidney pond, countless trails and mountain peaks, canoes at every lake and pond, and finally to the peak of mt Katahdin, this place is absolute heaven for anyone who appreciates nature.

This park was spectacular. We've spent the last several years in the West, and we were looking for somewhere in NE to camp and hike. I love some of the hikes out in Shenandoah, and the AT is great, but we hadn't found somewhere with the lakes, mountains, and wildlife -- and sense of wilderness -- that we were looking for. I'm sure there are more places out there, and everywhere has its own charms, but for now, Baxter fit the bill!

I didn’t actually make it to Baxter because I didn’t have the right vehicle. There are so many dirt roads and potholed bumpy roads that you absolutely need an off-roader or a high-sitting SUV just for piece of mind. I had a low sitting SUV and I didn't think my car would make it. So I turned around… and I saw a moose! This area is magnificent though. Peaceful, lots of wildlife, largely untouched and solitude solitude solitude. For a New Yorker tired of crowds, it was perfect! Generally this area in Aroostook county is like stepping back in time. People greet you as you pass by. No one locks their doors. The people are tough and polite. It was a nice experience of being left alone but also interacting with folks in a courteous polite manner. We dont get that in New York 😂

Three days going there hiking every day, we only saw a couple chipmunks and a mink.. Otherwise the nature is amazing and the people very friendly!!

This was a fantastic hiking location. Lots of trails off various levels of difficulty. The ice caves were very cool. You can climb down in them as long as you are not claustrophobic. The look out was worth the hike. It's remote and you will likely no
