Just got back from staying in the cottages. It was great! just a few steps out the door and your feet are in sand. AMAZING! The unit we stayed in was a 2 bedroom. Queen bed in master, 2 full size beds in the spare and pullout sofa in the living room. Kitchen was adequate, but who cares, you're at the beach. LOL. Washer and dryer in the unit. Bring minimal clothes, we did a load everyday. (could have survived with half of what we brought). Each bedroom had AC but not a unit in the main living area. No biggie. If you are thinking of going, GO! Great place, great location.

Air conditioner in the living room, where my young son was sleeping didn’t work well so very hot late afternoon and early evening. Numerous Wi-Fi problems. TV service didn’t work at all. My son mentioned it to me, but it wasn’t until the last night. We were there where he Told me the extent of where it was completely not functional at all or else I would’ve reported it and gotten it fixed if you would’ve told me sooner. Couple cabins around mine, directly next to us and catty corner from us were having parties with loud music. One of the cabins was even playing live music, literally 20 feet from my head. All night, long, three nights in a row. You could hear cussing very vulgar language that my young son should not be hearing. But I’m not the type of person to just complain. The morning of checkout I had a last minute emergency, well two of them, with less than 24 hours of leaving the island and going back home to the mainland. I could not find my NEX receipt for an item that was between 400 and $500 and it did not work and they told me I had to bring it back with the receipt. Money I really couldn’t afford so I was actually looking forward to returning it anyways. I probably had a total of 10 to 15 NEX bags and three separate trash cans to go through and look in every corner under every pillow and blanket and sheet and so I knew I was going to be a little bit late checking out. So at first, I asked for 30 minutes to 1 hour so I didn’t have to rush, and absolutely not and I immediately asked for at least 5 to 10 minutes and was told the same thing but then I was told that I would be charged extra. And then she went on to tell me what the financial charge was for how much later you checked out? So at that point I’m just freaking out wasn’t even worried about my first emergency, not having lodging the final night, but now focused on the new sudden emergency with finding the receipt. I’m the type of person that always cleans up after myself. I’ve done it at the Schofield Inn, Hale Koa, Bellows, Pililaau, barking sands, Edelweiss in Germany, shades of green Disney World and all the other Military lodgings i’ve stayed at around the world over the last 15 years 20+ something places. Even in the civilian world, Stan at hotels when I go visit my sisters, cleaning up my table and stacking plates at restaurants to make it easier on the staff and Service. Being polite and showing respect and that’s what I’ve always done because that’s how I was raised. But, when they told me I would be charged for not being in the office and checking out at 11. I was in panic mode looking for that receipt. If I didn’t feel pressured to have my keys at the front desk on the other side of the beach because they had me on the other side of Nimitz Beach,, if I didn’t feel that financial pressure they put on me obviously I would’ve cleaned up the mess I made looking for that receipt. Who wouldn’t? I don’t know what they’re doing. They told me my manager is going to review it and they’re probably going to charge me. The point is I’ve never left a hotel room, dirty or messy in my life and if I had not felt pressured being more financially burdened than I already am after losing my house in a housefire and now the contractor I hired a few years ago bought the job and now they’re trying to sue me and put a lien on my house, that financial burden, had me freaking out in a hurry to find the receipt. And if I didn’t feel like that, obviously I would’ve just used the extra 5 to 10 minutes. I asked for to clean up the mess I made. But no, I couldn’t. I couldn’t afford to because I had to find that and have the keys over there all the other side of the beach at the front office at 11 exactly. Most of the staff I talk to there were incredibly nice and polite. Just like all the other places I stayed at over the years in Hawaii and when I lived here. Even here at this place, they were still nice. Especially the maintenance man. I wish them all well. But I will never stay there ever again.

The cottage we stayed in was 1702 and it's only steps from the beach! Amazing to be that close! No problems checking in etc. The cottage is clean, nice updated kitchen, plenty of towels, plus the washer/dryer is super handy. The sofa & other living room furniture is close to needing to be replaced just due to lots of usage but we didn't sit inside very much so it wasn't an issue. The cottages are in a remote area that is super dark at night driving out there, but there is a gate to the entrance which is nice. We very much enjoyed shopping & eating in the Kapolei area - tons of variety and options.

Very much enjoyed our stay here, we was right on the beach and my grandson loved waking up to beach every morning. The only thing I didn't like was there was only 1 gate key which made it hard to get in amd out at time's.

For the most part, things are good. Location is fairly private but a bit too close to industrial stuff. The cabin interior is OK. The one drawback is that there is only one bathroom, and the sink has no vanity/countertop space. The beach is beautiful, however, not conducive to swimming because of all the rocks and the steep bank.

Your OCEANFRONT tranquil, fully stocked, beach cottage! **Extremely affordable, well maintained, MWR employees emulating the Aloha spirit, personable maintenance staff, quiet, tranquil, generous space (sq. footage)** Date of stay: 15-21DEC 2023 Advanced booking; 6 months Unit: 1778A, Nimitz Cove cottage Rates: approximately $150/night with DOD ID Guest count: 2 adults and 2 children Kitchen: Fully stocked Bedrooms/Bath: 2/1 full Linen & Towels: ample Other: 1 washer, 1 dryer great quality; BBQ; dedicated picnic tables; dedicated (2) lawn chairs; wifi present but fast (you’re there for vacation and R&R- detach from society!); TV (1 living room with cable only) I was born and raised on the island of O’ahu, in Makakilo (about 15 mins up the mountain) and I had never stayed here! I am glad that my family and I experienced this together. You can see diamond head/Honolulu from your back porch and immediate walk/access to the beach from the cottage. Less than 1 min walk to your oceanfront access. Growing up, we always came to the public access portion of white plains- which is about a 5-10 min walk from your cottage. The terrain surrounding your cottage is compacted and accessible for those with a wheelchair. However, there is no ramp to access the cottage for those who require it. Our family of 4 truly enjoyed our stay here. We have zero complaints! We were able to detach from society without being significantly far from the essentials and west side activities. We will be returning here for all of our return trip home vacations; you won’t find anything else comparable for the location, price point, and convenience factors. Thank you, MWR staff for all of your hospitality!

Be aware that there is no option to check-in on a Saturday for any of the beach cottages. If you arrive on Oahu on Saturday, you have to stay elsewhere for the first night. It’s unfortunate that check-in cannot somehow be coordinated somewhere on Barbers Point on a Saturday.

Great place to find my favorite liquor. I also love shopping here for gifts. They have some really great choices and small bottles make awesome gifts that I can put into a gift basket or bag. Plus the people who work there are so nice.
