Azteca Southwest Grill - Mexican restaurant in Coeur d'Alene - 2462 N Old Mill Loop, USA

Came here for dinner while on a work trip. I am a big fan of Mexican food, so I have pretty high expectations. In short, the food was excellent, atmosphere was just okay. I was seated quickly and given the usual chips and salsa. Salsa was great, not too spicy and the chips were piled high, unlike some restaurants that skimp on them. I ordered Colorado steak sauce, which is very similar to chili Colorado as far as flavor goes. This was excellent! A very rich and vibrant flavor. The beans looked very plain but were full of flavor, and the rice was some of the best rice I've had at a Mexican place. Overall the food was definitely worth 5 stars. As far as service goes, it could have been better. Not bad, just not super friendly. In fact, there didn't really seem to be that many people around.... The building was pretty nice--clean and modern. However, to me, the atmosphere is doubly important in a Mexican restaurant. From the mariachi music to the authentic decorations, this really makes a Mexican restaurant for me. This felt more like a hotel lobby with a few mexican-ish decorations. Not bad, just not great. Overall, fantastic food. I would definitely eat here again. The menu has excellent selection to try. Just don't expect the ultra-authentic, engaging atmosphere to go with it.

I grew up coming to Azteca and the food has always been great however the cleanliness was atrocious this time. Every booth had pieces of chips all over. I would somewhat understand if this was late after a busy day but this was at the 11AM opening on a Monday. Again, the food is great and the servers as well but there needs to be some cleaning done.

Azteca is consistently good across all the states we've visited. The portions are generous and delicious. The service is always friendly. We especially appreciate that each dish is distinct in it's own way. At lots of Mexican restaurants, many of the dishes taste basically the same. The only difference may be the protein choice or corn or flour tortillas. But at Azteca the actual taste from one dish to another is a different experience.

Finally tried this Azteca out today. Good appropriate decorations. Amazing food. Great service. I had steak fajitas and they were perfect. Even their fries and chips are just right. Recommend this restaurant 100%

My experiences at this location have always been enjoyable. The service is friendly and the food portions are generous. Takeout is great and well packaged with salsa and chips. We have eaten here for four years and we intend to continue. They have started a new policy concerning chips and salsa when you dine in. You no longer get two small dishes of salsa or refills on complimentary chips and salsa. You now only get one basket of chips and one small dish of salsa.

Angle you were amazing and such a hard worker. The salsa and chips were good the food was amazing but I can’t really say much about the weak margaritas, that was not my thing. People are friendly, Ambience was good. I WOULD RECOMMEND

Really good Southwestern Mexican Food. The decor is really vibrant, modern and original. The food was great! Not California Mexican food, so please don't compare it to that. Every place has its own flavor and not all regions of México (a large country) has the exact same menu items or flavors. Very good service. Good looking plates added to taste. Back room looked a little forgotten. Otherwise, definitely returning.

This restaurant treats you and feeds you like you're paying $3 for a meal, but charges you $20. Very subpar. I saw a lot of locals giving it a high review, so I thought it would be good. I guess that's what I get for trusting someone who has lived in Northern Idaho their whole life on Southern Mexican cuisine. Hah Being seated was quick(came on a Monday at 5:45pm), and the chips were yummy. That is where the 2 stars came from. Everything else was 1 star. Service was slow and we felt neglected, food was bland, dry, and gross. Menu was very hard to read (had a cover over it that wasn't completely see-through). Outrageously over priced. Most things were $18-$25. I ordered 1 tamale and my husband ordered 3 floutas. Our bill was $26. We had to ask for our chips to be re filled, and we heard two other tables had to ask as well. Company policy is probably to not give refills unless they ask. Same thing goes for the soda and water. There is no close parking. I didn't even finish my one tamale. They put red enchilada sauce all over it (probably to mask how dry it was) and it was terrible. Definitely not authentic or traditional. Would never return here. I would never reccomend this restaurant. I wish I could get a refund, that is how disappointed I am.
