Loved the atmosphere. Appeared like a clean environment. Huge space, lots of room in the restaurant; tables aren’t squished together. Parking was good. Tacos Al pastor were good. Rice was very plain. I don’t personally like refried beans but they bring out bean dip with the salsa; I like this for my loved ones that enjoy bean dip. Margarita was good, I got the top shelf one made with patron. Couldn’t taste any alcohol. Had 2 and did not even get a buzz, but it was good. Maybe it was because I asked them not to add the grand mariner. Usually I can taste the tequila in margaritas.
The reason I gave 3 stars was because they were anxious to clear our plates. There were 2 main staff helping us, the first one brought us water and cleared plates, the other took our order and brought us our alcoholic beverages. Once we stopped eating they came and asked to take our plates, we asked for boxes. I felt rushed to box my plate because they stood waiting for the plate. It just made me feel rushed. I think mostly because we had empty margarita glasses too but the server taking out order hadn’t asked or checked in. So we had eaten and boxed our food by the time we got our second margarita. We also had to catch him after he set the margaritas down and ask for dessert because at this point it felt like we wouldn’t see him again until our margaritas were gone. I’m the type of person that wants to have finished my first margarita and received my second margarita before the food arrives. Then a third while we box our food and wait for dessert or if not dessert I probably want a 4th margarita. Fried ice cream and churros were good.
The service was great here, I didn’t catch the name of the servers. Been coming for a few years (2016). Food hasn’t really gotten worse or better, I kind of remember it being just average. Prices are definitely on par with every other Mexican restaurant. Somewhat overpriced, or at market price as they would refer to them. The margaritas were actually good, I didn’t personally love that there were carrots on the fajitas.
I just received a text message that this location in Northgate is closed for good. I was just in this store the other day. This is a GREAT restaurant! All the staff are amazing and the restaurant manager is so cool and polite. I've been going to this location with my family for a long time. I hope someway Azteca can rethink their decision to close this location. To all the staff that work there, thank you all for providing outstanding customer service
and also thank you for providing a great experience every time I have eaten there. You all will be missed!!! I would definitely give them 10 stars!!
Great customer service, food is alright. Giant margaritas are delicious!!
Been coming here as a family since we were kids and the nostalgia grip is real. Some things have changed over time, but still a fantastic time every occasion! The steak/chicken molcajete with warm corn tortillas is the comfort food of dreams, and all of the desserts are great - especially the fried ice cream and the pineapple upside down cake! And gotta always do the birthday song with their legendary hat 🤭 That thing has got to be ancient now!
Appears to offer good value via HH, for both food and drinks. Although, their margarita, though tasted decent to good, did not taste like alcohol - my preferred way. 😅
Azteca Mexican Restaurant
Northgate Way
Azteca a timeless favorite... One of the few businesses allowed to remain after demolition. (Old Northgate Mall)
I ordered the Chicken Taquitos... I've ordered this dish many other times...
On this occasion the consistency was slightly 'off'. The Guacamole, Sour Creme and Tomatoes in much smaller proportions...
The Taquitos were 'soggy' and lacked the defined crispness I'm used to.
The Chips and Salsa are provided as a compliment to your main entree... We're as good as I am usually used to. However again the proportions were much smaller.
The environment of the restaurant is very nice. The setting is calm and artsy.
On all other occasions Azteca would receive 5 stars on this occasion only 4.
The Taquitos weren't right. The Restaurant also forgot to turn there lights on! I needed to remind them. It looks much better outside.
This place has a good vibe, and the staff were ok, however the food portion is huge here, though not as delicious as it could be. I would recommend this place if you're hungry and just want some average but large protein Mexican food.
