Really good service - attentive and entertaining server. Wonderful patio area (35W is near and loud) with great sunset views. Bull bites were delicious and highly recommend starting your meal with that app. Fish tacos were incredibly flavorful!! So much food - more than enough to share. All in all a great restaurant and exceeds the "hotel restaurant" reputation.

UPDATED REVIEW: I came here for a second time on a Friday night with my mother-in-law. It actually didn’t seem very busy, but they must be understaffed here because our service was pretty slow and not a great experience. We both ordered the raspberry martini off their cocktail menu and eventually were informed that they were missing an ingredient to make that cocktail, so we had to pick different drinks. I had gotten an email for a free appetizer for my birthday month, so we ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which was pretty good. It had lots of big artichoke chunks (which doesn’t bother me, but I know some people do not prefer that). They did give us a pretty large portion of the dip, but not enough bread to use for dipping. We both opted for the French onion soup with our entrees. We thought the soup was quite delicious. The main problems we experienced were with our entrees. The first time they tried to serve us our main meals, my mother-in-law immediately noticed they had given her the incorrect steak. They apologized and said they would be back with our corrected entrees. It took awhile, but they eventually served us again - this time they brought my entree with both of the wrong pairings (I ordered the Alfredo potatoes and the signature green beans, but received mashed potatoes and asparagus). At this point we were getting frustrated and not confident that our steaks would be cooked the way that we ordered them. We spoke with the manager and said we would pay for what we had already eaten, but did not want to stay for the entrees. The manager was kind enough to dismiss the charges for our drinks and the soups, which we appreciated. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Axel’s is a great place to go for a nice steak dinner, without breaking the bank. So many steak houses are ala carte, and don’t include any sides with the price of the steak, which ends up being so expensive. At Axel’s you get a lot included with your steak - you get a popover, choice of soup or salad, and two side pairings.

Beautiful ambiance. I was sat at a table right away and the gal behind the bar served me a drink before I sat down. I was excited after a 5 hour drive expecting to have an amazing experience dining on a large meal and 2 carry our meals as well a plan to leave a large tip. But… no one checked in at my table for 20mins so I left enough to cover my soda water / tip and walked out after telling the gentlemen at the door I did so. Maybe next time….

My wife and I had a wonderful time. The service was exceptional. The food, however, was less impressive. I ordered a sirloin steak medium rare. It was medium. It had a petroleum flavor. The loaded baked potato wasn't even warm enough to melt the butter and wasn't fully cooked. The signature green beans were delicious. I mentioned the food issues to our server and he was very apologetic and comped us our drinks, which was nice.

We went on a Friday evening and well over half the tables were open. I think our server didn't plan on making much money for the night, and it showed. The sweet potato was very small and cold. The server didn't apologize or anything, she seemed more confused that we'd like a warmed up potato. She took it back and returned with it about 90 servings later from the microwave. The other meats and veggies were properly prepared. None of the food was impressive, neither bad or good. The prices are certainly higher than the quality. Service was very fast though. I didn't make it halfway through my popover before the soup came. Then just barely into my soup before the entree came.

Had to share my son’s experience! It was absolutely amazing! Drove an hour just to try it! The food was great! Came out hot and fresh! Saturday night and short staffed like the rest of the world and still good? Yes! Steak was tender and walleye was crisp! Definitely worth checking out!

We haven't been here in a long time! Happy to be back! Service was excellent. Nancy was really busy but checked in with us often. She paced the meal well. The food was excellent! Steak was really tender and done to perfection! The sauce with the steak was delicious! Didn't feel rushed.

Manager and server were great! Some other staff didn't seem to care about customer service. Food was delicious but a little pricey for some of the portions. I suggest ordering an appetizer.
