The Avila Adobe, located in the historic heart of Los Angeles at Olvera Street, is a hidden gem that offers a glimpse into the city's rich past. As the oldest standing residence in Los Angeles, this adobe home tells a story of the city's early Mexican and Californian heritage. My visit to the Avila Adobe was a step back in time. The well-preserved adobe house, with its thick walls and rustic charm, provides a sense of what life was like in the early 19th century. The authentic period furnishings and exhibits offer insights into the daily lives of the Avila family, who once inhabited this historic structure. One of the highlights of the Avila Adobe is the serene courtyard, adorned with vibrant flowers and shaded by lush trees. It's a peaceful oasis in the midst of the bustling Olvera Street, making it a perfect place to relax and reflect on the city's history. While the Avila Adobe is a relatively small site, it packs a big historical punch. It's a valuable addition to any visit to Olvera Street, offering a unique perspective on Los Angeles' cultural heritage. In conclusion, the Avila Adobe is a captivating window into the city's past, providing a charming and educational experience. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply curious about the city's origins, a visit to this historic site is well worth your time.
Oldest home is Los Angeles. Great location to see what the city was before it was this massive steel and concrete jungle.
Avila Adobe is the oldest house still existing in Los Angeles. It's located in the historical district of Olvera Street, which once was the heart of the new city of Los Angeles at the time of Spanish domination. Visiting the interiors is free, so I recommend that you go inside and take a look. Everything is perfectly maintained and gives you a nice idea on the lifestyle of the early 1800s.
I went in 2022 thanksgiving and I really liked it, tho the floors where a bit creaky, and a doll in a crib was creepy. I went 2023 thanksgiving again and it looked the same from the outside but it was closed to people couldn’t come in. Really was better in 2022 overall but nevertheless still good.
Great adobe of the 1800's with furnished rooms and staff to answer your questions
Okay if you happen to be near downtown LA you should definitely come to this Adobe located near the famous Placita Olvera! :-) there is free admission to the Avila Adobe this is the oldest existing house in Los Angeles. Give me the belt about 1818 I don't own a villa and it was occupied briefly as American headquarters in 1847. It was severely damaged in the earthquake of 1971, the house is not restored as an example of California lifestyle in the 1840s!
Great historical location in the heart of Los Angels! Authentic and a great look into the past. The history here is beautiful and the stuff does a great job keeping this casa clean and informative. Fruit and agriculture within the property is lively and well taken care of.
Free museum with exhibits about the lives of the Avila family during the Spanish times. Its one of the few places that people actually come and see the history of a house and its inhabitants.
My friend was visiting and I brought him to the LA Temple for the first time and I had never been to the Bhagavad-Gita museum before. We were jaw dropped, excited, crying all throughout the walk through. Itâs such a visceral experience with the sou

Visiting "Nashville Delights" was an unexpectedly authentic journey to the heart of Tennessee, just a stone's throw away from Hollywood Boulevard. From the moment I walked in, I felt transported to a cozy Nashville eatery. The Tennessee hot chicken?
