Avalon Cafe and Kitchen Ann Arbor - American restaurant in Ann Arbor - Pretzel Bell Building, 120 E Liberty St, USA

My friends and I went here for brunch and I had made reservations for us, and they had our table ready before the reservation time which was awesome! We got seated and they had forgotten one place setting/menu and we had to ask for another. My friends got drinks and they looked pretty, and they said they were good. Then we ordered food, I got the brioche French toast with over-medium eggs. The French toast was extremely underwhelming. They looked like two pieces of wonder bread with some berries thrown on top. It tasted good, and the eggs were cooked to perfection, but I was disappointed in how much the meal cost and it looked like something my 12 year old could make at home. My friend let me have one of her potato cakes and they did NOT taste anything like potato. I thought they were going to be like a hash brown, they tasted like falafel. The aioli on them was spicy and had good flavor. My other friend got the biscuits and mushroom gravy and she said it was very good. I really was hoping to be more impressed since I had heard such amazing things about the Avalon in Detroit. Likely don’t need to come back here.

Such amazing food and good service. We loved the decor and had a great time here. I would everything we had again. The onion jam on the burger is so good.

The kitchen was open for an earlier lunch prior to many restaurants in the area. The selections were interesting and satisfying. Side dishes which supplied the main meal and then chocolate pancakes for dessert. They were a little too sweet for me to eat as a main course but I'm sure others would enjoy it. And of course they have a great maple syrup which makes a huge difference when you're having pancakes. It's easy to see why this restaurant was crowded even at 11:00 a.m.

Overall I was disappointed with Avalon. By no means was the food bad. But I expected so much more. I got the Shakshuka and Fireside Latte. The Shaksuka was alright. The eggs were cooked well but the spicy tomato sauce tasted like they opened a jar of tostitos salsa and put it in a pan. Additionally there was some feta cheese but not no where near enough. Also they served it with a slice a beard which is no were near enough given the portion size. All that said the Fireside Latte was really nice and my favorite part. While my experience was okay overall, it was not enough to get me to try Avalon again

This place has good service, with many vegetarian options, and it is PET friendly, comfortable, the price is between 15-20 dollars depending on the drinks you have there

Great food! We enjoyed the Mushroom Burger, the Roasted Veggie Bowl (with Tofu), the blueberry pancakes from the kids menu, the mushroom gravy, and the potato cakes. The Avocado toast plated well but wasn't as tasty (the avocado was bland and the toast had the overpowering bitter taste of olive oil) but everything else was top notch. Would highly recommend going to Avalon. Also, the staff was super polite and great hosts :)

Cute place, the host was very nice but our waitress was either overwhelmed or just didn't care much about us because we just got some coffee and dessert. The coffee drinks took a long time to be served and my mom had to get up and ask for silverware as it was forgotten about. I also got the wrong coffee drink but drank it anyway and it was good. I ordered the white raspberry mocha but got what I think was the winter mint mocha based on the taste. My daughter had a warm sticky bun and enjoyed it. I want to thank the owner for the response, I have worked in restaurants for decades and know there are definitely slip ups from time to time. I want to suggest maybe updating the dessert menu to include the desserts in the case at the front of the restaurant. Or if they change often maybe have a separate menu. My brothers (who have frequented the establishment in the past) weren't sure if we ordered those from our server or had to walk up to order them on our own.

Had an amazing brunch with my crew! my gf and i ordered vegan & our friend got the soft scramble. Bread is amazing, avocados are perfect, potatoes are delicious... Their coffee is also fantastic! perfect brunch spot- literally drove 2 hours just to go here & will def come back.
