We stopped in Burlington for a bite to eat and were recommended to try August First. It’s a popular spot with a line out the door when we arrived, but an employee was passing out free sample of their chocolate chip pumpkin bread. It was so delicious that I ordered a piece for myself! I also got the Vermonter sandwich which was pretty good. It comes with turkey, cheese, red onion, Apple chutney and a cranberry mayo. The combination of the mayo and Apple chutney worked well. For a drink I got an iced vanilla latte. It was ok, a little more milk vs. espresso than I’d like. Some other items we ordered were the egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and a chocolate croissant. Their pastries are really the highlight. Freshly made and you can tell.

I came here for a yummy lunch after walking around the area. I was so thrilled that I chose this place! I got the maple biscuit, tofu bahn mi, and an olive loaf! I was torn between two different sandwiches - the staff member was able to explain the different flavor profiles! Whenever I ask, people usually will just say which one is their favorite, so I appreciated the change! Everything was delicious!!

This is my favorite cafe/bakery to stop at whenever we’re in Burlington. The food is mind-blowingly good and never disappoints. I usually get a breakfast sandwich and the maple biscuit, which is my favorite biscuit of all time. Ambience is great, drinks are good, and baked items are plentiful.

Great place for lunch! Gets pretty busy, which is a good sign that the menu is amazing. Good french baguette, tried the banh mi with pork belly and it was a nice fusion style, not authentic Vietnamese. "Cinnamon bun" was a bit different and unexpected the cream cheese frosting, still delicious! Must try spot!!

Throughly enjoyed my breakfast here. The establishment was nice and clean. They have separate bins for trash, recycling, and compost. You can opt for silverware or disposable utensils. They also have a "no screens" policy to have you interact with people instead of being buried in your phone. For food, my girlfriend enjoyed the avocado toast, which looked fantastic. She got a fried egg on hers and really enjoyed it. I went with the polenta and eggs. The portion was pretty big. Lots of polenta, large slice of salmon, 2 perfectly poached eggs, and garnished with fresh green onion. Such a great flavorful dish. I also got some cheddar jalapeño bread to go. I wish I didn't live so far or I would be here regularly.

I had the avocado toast with pickled onions and fried egg on top…OMG mouth watering amazingness. Literally the best avocado toast I have EVER had. My husband got the steak and egg sandwich. Fresh ingredients. He’d order it again but make sure to have extra napkins because it’s a little greasy. The place is like a small warehouse and not really air conditioned but it was still nice with a small breeze. People were nice. I will definitely be back!! Thank you!

Visited August First for breakfast on a Monday morning. I had a breakfast special and it was very special! I was pleasantly surprised on the perfect cook and blend of all the flavors on my home fries breakfast bowl. The place itself is baking fresh bread using it in their meals, selling it by the loaf and making your nostrils just as happy as your taste buds. The eating area has indoor and outdoor seating and clearly aims to be open air. They encourage no devices sit downs to enjoy your food and your company. It's a very chill environment even when it is getting very busy. They offer a variety of breakfast pastries and you can get it all to go if you're on the move. Service was smooth and fast and they kept everything moving as the lines grew. Pricing was reasonable and we will happily without hesitation keep going back. Enjoy!

If you're in the city of Burlington and you're looking for the best bread around, look no further than August First. This bustling eatery is known for its incredible baked goods, particularly its bread, which is some of the best you'll find anywhere. Despite the crowds that often gather outside, it's worth braving the line to experience the quality of the bread for yourself. The service can take a bit, but trust us when we say that the bread is worth the wait. If you're a bread lover, you simply can't miss this place. Inside, the atmosphere is lovely and provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a cozy and inviting space that feels like a different world entirely. Now, let's talk about the food. We tried the Avocado Toast, the Focaccia (which we used at home for a pesto pasta dinner), and a chocolate cookie, and everything was fantastic. The bread was the perfect amount of airy, and the crust was impressively crispy. The prices were about 10-15 bucks per item, which might seem a bit steep, but when you consider the quality of the bread, it's easily worth it. Overall, I can't recommend August First enough. If you're a bread lover, this is a must-visit spot in the city of Burlington. Just be prepared to wait in line and maybe have a bit of patience with the service. But once you take a bite of that amazing bread, you'll know it was all worth it.

One of my favorite coffee spots in Burlington. The space is super cool and airy with lots of natural light and old wood floors (there’s even a little pop up shop in an old bank vault - although I loved that even more when it was available as a seat

Great place, low key dining. Great breakfast burrito! Definitely in the Burlington top five. Eggs amazing which is one of my highest marks, otherwise spice and seasoning underwhelming. Bring your own spices and hot sauce.
