Ashland Carter House - Featured Reviews (10)
Everything about this place is five star. I came to Oregon to attend the United Bicycle Institute for 30-days. Being unfamiliar with Ashland, I contacted Katy to check on the convenience of this location to the school. It was a 20 minute walk and a five minute bicycle ride. Extremely convenient to restaurants, grocery, laundry, and entertainment. Everything was within walking distance, which made it very convenient for me. Katy was a terrific host. I stayed in the billiard room in the main house. It had all the conveniences of HOME to include a kitchenette, a walk-in shower, refrigerator, microwave, garbage, disposal, cable TV, and queen size bed. The room was larger than a standard hotel room, and it was far more quiet than a standard hotel room. While it was attached to the house, I often wondered if Katy and her family were at home. I had to do a lot of studying, so a quiet environment was extremely important. The Carter House delivered in every way. If you’re a student at UBI, or visiting parents of local college students, looking for a nice place to stay to enjoy the countryside, and the wineries, look no further.
We made our reservations at the Ashland, OR Royal Carter House months ago and have been anticipating 3 mornings of waking up to this Inn's version of a wonderful home made breakfast as one can expect from a B&B. We selected this particular B&B because it is in walking distance to the Shakespeare Festival, and has a swimming pool to while away the hot days (as we digest the lovely breakfast). As it happens, the pool has not been cared for for apparently many a year, and there is no cooked breakfast. We were informed that a basket of cold processed food, as one can buy for themselves in any grocery store is delivered to the room the prior evening. If the rooms were very inexpensive, I suppose this would only be a great disappointment. The rooms are not inexpensive. We are paying $169.00/night for a dirty pool and packaged foods. Unless you don't care for the true B&B experience, I would not recommend staying here.......... there are so many great B&B's to choose from - in our opinion this is not one of them! Huge disappointment and rip-off! Read the fine print carefully as you shop for a place to stay. We checked the website and if website does list "breakfast basket" food items. Be aware that is all there is.
We just got back from Ashland and had a great time. We had a great experience with the B&B we stayed at so i wanted to share my experience. The B&B was nice and the location was great (very close to town) but the thing that we really appreciated was how nice the owners were to my daughter who is 6 (there were other people with kids there too so i think it is not unusual for them to have families). One of the owners spent a bit of time showing my daughter their music box collection and they let her play with some of the toys they had on display. The room we had (the calico room) was big enough for 4 of us (there was a small room off of the larger room so that made it perfect for my family of three plus another relative). We saved a lot by not having to get two rooms. And they had a breakfast basket instead of a sit down breakfast which worked out great for us (we could eat whenever and save some for snacks during the day - also my daughter didn't have to sit down for yet another formal meal). They also have a refrig in the room so it made it easy to save left overs since my daughter doesn't seem to eat when we do and then gets hungry in between meals. All these things definitely made the vacation a lot nicer!
The B&B is very Victorian. If you don't care for lace on top of lace then you won't be happy here. I didn't care one way or the other so it worked out okay for me. My room was upstairs toward the back with two double beds, a sun room, and a spacious bathroom. The breakfast basket was adequate and the owner friendly. I had the option of eating my breakfast in my sunroom or taking it downstairs to the dining room or out to the patio. I never really saw the other guests but the owner was always around. It was a good location for me because I don't mind walking. There is a bit of an uphill walk to return to the B&B from the shopping or theater areas. I would probably look for something a little different if I return next year. Maybe something a little newer or more upscale.
This B&B is in a great location, just blocks from Ashland's theaters and main shopping areas. Breakfast consists os baskets of food delivered to the room the night before. Don't expect gourmet; it's just the basics, such as fruit, yogurt, and items that either come from Costco or are Cost o-esque. The advantage is that you are not tied to a sit-down breakfast time. Also, if you like chatting with the proprietor, you'll be in luck. If, however, you'd rather be left alone, you might not like this place. Guests may use the dining and living rooms, but the owner also uses the living room. Overall, this is a convenient and adequate place to stay, but not luxurious.
We had to cancel our trip because of the California fires and smoke. Katy was understanding and accommodating. We will certainly be staying with her on our next trip to Ashland. The property is beautiful and well-maintained. Don't miss staying at this gem next time you are in Ashland.
The theaters for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival are 4 blocks away. But when you pull up to the B&B, you will notice 3 "For Sale" signs in the front and it is obvious that the owner has lost interest. A few tired plants are in the pots. The owner rarely smiles. The breakfast baskets are prepared the night before and left in your room to eat there. Our room was death by clutter with little space available for "dining" there. I couldn't wait to return home.
Ashland is a sweet town, and it's wonderful to be walking distance from everything--especially if you have theatre tickets! Katy's place is everything she promised. Delightful.
Exceeded my expectations!! I came for an artist retreat and got so much more! Jacqui and Billy were wonderful hostesses. Jacqui accommodated every single need from planning amazing art activities, delicious local restaurants, beautifully appointed
We had a great time! The theme and puzzles were entertaining and just the right amount of challenging. Thanks Eden for being the perfect âbar tenderâ host!
