Positive: Reasonable price for no-frills accommodation. Close enough to where I needed to be. Hostelier friendly and helpful. Clever adaptive use of an old, in-town building in a town (village?) that has seen its heyday. Owner did it right. Negative: This is a lock-box access hostel. I did not receive full, accurate instructions on how to get in. Significatly, I did not get the e-mail informing me of my room number or the entrance (there are three) to use. Negative: ""
I am sharing my experience because I went to this place based on so many different reviews and I got extremely dissapointed:
The point for me to book a hostel is the fact that it has kitchen and you can cook. Also the interaction with other minded people, usually hikers or skiers in this area.
The property has kitchen but the owner uses the dinning table as an office, there is no place for you to seat and have a meal. Besides feels super uncomfortable that the owner is always there, working I guess, so the place is weridly quiet. The man was there as early as 7am until padt 8pm. He is in the room you have to cross to go from rooms to kitchen, so you always feel like going into someone's office. Very unfriendly feeling. Instead of cooking which was my hope, I ended up eating snacks in bed, because my room didn't have a little table or anything. So unless you book a bigger room, bed for food is your only option.
There is a living room kinda area, but it's inside the gallery store, again, awkward...
The most unfriendly hostel I have ever been. I would not recommend. Feels like an art gallery in crises that needs to rent rooms to stay afloat. Definitely not guest oriented. My opinion.
Good place real cheap, but the man who appears to run the place is rude, no social or customer service skills and trudges around like a kid. He Has an huge Ego that doesn’t match the accommodations or his “art.”
Cats are friendly and cute but place stinks of Cat Pee.
For the price, very convenient and decent. Close to the White Mountains, and enough shops close by. Free parking in the streets. Self-service check-in, not really an hostel (note on the door he would come back later, never came): had to go to Dunkin Donut to find password to enter inside. Not very convenient. Inside, decorated with art. Lot of amenities. Room was clean, mattress was OK. Cats everywhere in the hostel. Would go again!
Great experience with my first stay and there will be more in the future. Clean rooms & linens, AC, fully applianced kitchen, dining area, and bathroom. Dave is a gracious and friendly host. Cumberland Farms store & gas right across the street. Couldn't ask for more in the nice community of Whitefield, NH.
Dave knows how to create beauty from an empty canvas. The nicest quiet village north of the presidentials range.
The self-service kitchen is well furnished (cook your breakfast there, way better than any other possibility in Whitefield (🤮Dunkin, Cumberland farms). Comfy, cozy and roomy rooms.
And art, art, art! Dave, you should hang more of your creations in the kitchen 😀.
I’ll be back for sure!
Thanks for everything!
Owner is trying to do his best, with what he has. Basic hostel accommodations with 2 cats.
Great little hostel. Bed was a little uncomfortable for me but I'm picky about that. My wife slept just fine. Seemed clean. Just be aware this is a hostel. You will hear the people upstairs, you will hear people walking around. No one was obnoxiously loud. Just the muffled sound of friendly conversation. You have the privacy of your own room but everything else is shared. The price is great for the area. Would stay here again if in the area, I'd just bring my own pillow for my neck issues.
What an amazing location!!!! Attended a conference here and I would definitely want to go back. Rooms are spacious, but fit with the style of the hotel. Team members were always very friendly and helpful! Took advantage of a spa day as well and it wa
