Armstrong's - Family restaurant in Verona - 358 Lee Hwy, USA

I was coming off a long road trip. I was very hungry and wanted some good home cooking. For a supposed home cooking place like this, it seems like they could do better on their sides. The main meal comes with two sides and there are only four options mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw,baked apples, and I forgot one other. A side salad that you see in the photo cost me two dollars extra and it was the smallest side salad I never seen. I ordered liver and onions, which in itself was very good except the liver was literally a little over a quarter of an inch thick. That made it a little bit chewy and dry. The gravy & mashed potatoes was great. Later I saw on like a chalkboard specials of the day and they had lima beans on that but it wasn’t on the menu so I asked to add that and they were very good. The only reason I’m giving them a three out of four or five is because, the side salad was so small that they charged me two more dollars and that the liver was so skinny and a little chewy. The waitress that was at the counter had short hair kind of sandy blonde and wore glasses. She was kind of short with me, and a gentleman came in to order some chili and she flat out told him no he couldn’t do that. He wanted enough chili to feed 12 and she told him that wasn’t enough time that he needed 24 hours ahead and he said well I’m gonna pick it up tomorrow at the same time which is 24 hours and she said no that’s not enough time. Another waitress heard her and said, let me ask the cook in the cook said yes. How rude is that so that’s why they’re getting a three instead of a four.

Wouldn’t even waste your money here. I understand why it’s an APPRECIATED restaurant, however i cannot understand why anyone would sit and eat from this place. Unless your over 50 and your taste buds have started to wear I would recommend anywhere else. This at best and this is be nice is hospital food quality. Not seasoned cooked poorly and watered down food. The country friend steak was the only thing good in this whole tray

Stopped in for lunch for the first time today. There are different specials depending on what day it is. The atmosphere was cozy and the staff were attentive and friendly. The food was very good and very inexpensive. ***Cash or Check ONLY*** They do not accept cards. I definitely recommend stopping by!

Absolutely loved it! Warm, positive atmosphere. Waitresses welcoming and helpful. The food was delicious. Really wish we had one of these in our town.

Good food at a great value. Friendly staff! The decor is a little tired and sad.

The food here is excellent and so are all of the servers. Prices are unbelievably low in comparison to everywhere else. Only downside is they don't accept cards. Cash only. Do not let that stop you from trying them. You won't be disappointed.

What a gem! Came in yesterday and had delicious corned beef hash and the service was so well run! We will be back next time we are back in VA.
