We were in the redwoods for over a week up here in Humboldt county and this was the first place we came because it’s so easily accessible from the street! So glad we did! A great way to start being blown away by giant trees and get in a hike without being too hike-y. Since we were tired from traveling we only did one trail loop but there is plenty more to see - I’m sure one could happily explore this park for a whole day ☺️
Absolutely stunning hiking around here. A local recommended it to me and I couldn’t be more grateful to explore this gem of a place. The trails were so peaceful and serene, it was absolutely breathtaking, and I would love to return just to hike here given the chance! One of the photos I took here has been my phone lock screen for a few months now :•) honestly couldn’t recommend more highly!!
So beautiful, I love coming here and exploring. They do have a map you can download, I highly recommend it as the markers are spaced far apart and it's easy to get in a different trail.
The great Arcata community forest!!!! If these trees could speak they would tell many a tale of 6 foot long 2lb joints of Humboldt s finest weed being smoked at the 420 festival that used to happen annually here, or of the numerous drum circles that used to happen in the meadow complete with beautiful hippies dancing with hula hoops and the occasional summertime school bus migration passing thru.
In the late '80s and early '90s, this place was a west coast hippy paradise, and people actually went deep into the forest at night and camped back there for months at a time.
As happens with many a paradise, a few unconscious people ruined it all by leaving piles of unsightly trash, litter, and empty bottles of old crow effectively infuriating hikers and the arcata city council to the point where they hired a park ranger and thus begins the legacy of ranger bob.
Now good old ranger Bob took his job of harassing hippys very seriously and when he was not handing out citations for camping he could be found with binoculars hiding in the bush's making sure those dime bags of the devil's lettuce were not being sold or consumed without him getting his share. As a 215 patient himself, it has been rumored that on his mantle at home, there lies a $2000 artistic hand-blown glass bong confiscated from a well-to-do visitor to the redwood park.
The city does a great job of maintaining the park's trails keeping them clean and maintaining the cool little playground for kids here. There is a sweet downhill mountain bike track that has a great flow to it, a basketball half-court, some bathrooms, and a small place to grill food. Enjoy this magical place with respect, PLEASE, as it is one of the most beautiful places on sol-3 (earth). ♥️🌲
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Great day for outside chill time. Vendors selling their handmade masterpieces. Nice vibe
On the walking path, however... there were two small little rods of steel sticking straight up about 1 inch out of ground. My wife kicked them and almost fell. No warnings, cones, etc...to notify the public of danger. Could trip someone!
Gorgeous little forest in the middle of Arcata, CA. The trails are well maintained, and admission is free. The forest is clean, and dogs are allowed. Mountain bikers are also welcome. There is a small parking lot in the entrance of the forest, but beware, there are only 6 spots. Other than that, you will need to park in the streets nearby. I highly recommend this forest to anyone that loves nature and outdoors activities.
I love this place. No headphones needed. Just listen to the hush of the redwoods. It's always a sweet place to wander with my gets, my thoughts and my heart. Come here for easy access to the trees and your soul!
This is a fabulous park in the middle of a very unassuming area, especially for it being free!
Many great trails and much larger than you’d expect! The signage isn’t great, but it’s not terribly difficult to navigate if you deviate from your original trail.
Trails were neat and well groomed, not too muddy despite lots of rain.
Would recommend to anyone looking for a quick hike along beautiful trees!
I really appreciated the opportunity to immerse myself in this 200 hour yoga teacher training. It provided an opportunity to disconnect from work and dive into the content. The yoga instruction and approach of this training was exactly what I hoped f
Perfect place for lunch! The best food. The best homemade tortillas! Wow! Yum! Burritos are huge! They are awesome if you have special orders (like no dairy). My order is always perfect!
The cutest ice cream shop I have ever been in! They have an incredible table that's on a swing. You can sit at it with up to four adults and enjoy your ice cream while swinging! They also have the sweet single carousel ride for youngsters. Local phot
Super beautiful park, literally a 5-10 minute walk from Cal-Poly Humboldt. Whoever maintains these trails is doing great, however it is a little stinky right now. Not sure why. Anyway, I love taking my dog here, there's also a super cute skate park/p
