Really cool place! I love all of the old machinery. Great informative exhibits, really helps to tell the story of the area and the industry. The silk making machines were particularly interesting, some were made in Paterson, NJ.
This museum is well thought out with a good mix of visuals and text covering not just the coal mines, but the feel of the entire town at the time! Everyone was friendly and helpful, my expectations were blown away and it was well worth the admission!
Not just coal! Interesting museum detailing the immigrant experience in the Lackawanna Valley. Textile displays (especially silk) very interesting. Highly recommend.
Awesome information to learn about coal mines in general. Very cool and perfect for a really hot day. They have a little gift shop that actually has many "The Office" items in it. They do tours every 30 minutes, but leave early if they are all booked. You should get there a half hour early for your tour because they might book up and you'll have to wait even longer. The whole tour was great and it was very intriguing to learn some of these facts and lasted about 1 hour and 15 minutes. :)
Some may wonder what's to be seen here, or what can be shown in an anthracite museum. I must say, there is an enormous surprise waiting for you. From Charles Edgar Patience's sculptures to the equipment used for mining, a real life bar, silk factory equipment, and many more items waiting to be seen, you will not regret a second spent here.
Excellent rainy day activity. I was amazed by the exhibits and we had an wonderful employee share an incredible amount of historic knowledge with us!!
Outstanding musuem on coal mining in PA with sterling staff who are very helpful and quick to answer questions!
Honestly it's ok. But very small. Our visit was slightly ruined by a young lad vacuuming so you could barely hear any audio on the video and displays. Plus it was just very annoying. They do have a discount if you have an ebt card which is great.
