We popped in for lunch today, riding around the area and decided to try it out. I'm not usually a sandwich connoisseur but wanted to try something new. The French roll bread was soft and tasted good, although too bread for my liking. The catfish was seasoned very well, came out very hot, fresh out of the grease. I believe it had some spicy or Dijon mustard on it, which I loved. The side of combo was delicious and hot, I only noticed sausage, no other meats that I can make out. The service was great, the server was working hard and was attentive. Overall, it was a tasty lunch. I will likely return and try some other dishes in the future.
We loved this place! Came here before heading to a show at Zellerbach Hall. They were very accommodating. The food was delivered fast and fresh. The Jambalaya was delicious and the hush puppies were perfection. Great service and great food. Will definitely be back.
I enjoyed Angeline's. Most of the food was delicious. Who would have thought I would find good gumbo in Cali. The BBQ shrimp were my favorite, just needs a tad more spice. Now it's time to go back to the drawing board on the red beans and rice. The flavor was way off, no spice and way too much thyme.. I would definitely go back
TLDR: Get the voodoo shrimp. WOW. Store interior is cute and service is absolutely fantastic! We got topped off on sweet tea all night. We got the sweet tea, hush puppies, voodoo shrimp, jambalaya, fried chicken and bread pudding. Sweet tea is great. Not too sweet and refreshing. Def squeeze the lemon. 8/10 Hush puppies were hot and fresh. Crispy outside and sweet soft inside. Wish we got a bit more butter on the side. Very delicious. 7/10. Voodoo shrimp is by far the best. Soft, sweet, buttery succulent shrimp with a smoky sauce on a bed of rice with a side of green beans. If I go again, I'd order 2 of these. So good. 10/10 Jambalaya was good. Got pieces of pulled apart ham hock and sausage in a nice tomato-y almost like fried rice with a bit more sauce. 7/10 Fried chicken is 4 pieces of boneless tenders over a creamy sauce with a side of green beans and sweet potato mash. The sauce and sides go well with the chicken. Chicken is juicy. Personally wish the chicken had more of a kick in spices since it's a Cajun. 7/10 Bread pudding is a square of banana bread in a caramel-y sauce. I was full, but it was probably my least favorite. 5/10 Total was $120 including tax and tip. The 3 of us were super stuffed. Would recommend.
Located in Downtown Berkeley, walking distance from UC Berkeley. This is a must try landmark restaurant! Excellent food, full bar (post finals drinks) and great service. I highly recommend their gumbo (cup or bowl) savory soup with chunks of andouille sausage and shrimp with a scoop of rice. Catfish (entree) comes with a side of potato salad and hush puppies. The hush puppies are corn bread balls of delicious comfort! Po boy sand is a sub sized meal of deep fried shrimp, lettuce and tomato. Their side of Mac n cheese, comes out freshly baked in a very hot stone bowl. Lastly, try their shrimp creole: tomato sauce with sautéed shrimp and green beans.
Great service. Hostess and waitstaff friendly and courteous. Awesome southern cuisine options. Shocked to find above decent boudain in the bay area. Nice atmosphere. Street parking is limited. Delivery and to-go options are available. Would go again.
Delicious food! Always consistently tasty food and friendly wait staff, no matter the day or time. Great specials for brunch on the weekend too! Alligator hash is super tasty. Highly recommend! Alligator hash on the weekends is super good! Voodoo shrimp, high puppies and brussel sprouts always good too!
This place came highly recommended by our local guide and it was my first time eating Cajun food in a restaurant so I was really grateful I chose Angeline's kitchen. My oh my the flavors were amazing! There were two of us so we shared one entree, two sides and one dessert because the portions were ginormous. We had the voodoo shrimp which was suggested, Brussels sprouts and Mac & cheese. For dessert we obviously had the beignet that came hot, fluffy and delicious. The staff were warm and nice but they were overwhelmed during dinner service I ended up waiting quite a long time for my food (30 mins?) And they got my first order wrong but they were apologetic and I won't penalize them for it.
