Rooms are very nice, located in a quiet neighborhood near the downtown commercial district. Wonderful large communal kitchen and dining area. Also a large communal area to socialize with guest and Friends. Very affordable a bargain by any standards. Let me inform you in any potential guest, that this lodging establishment is now named the BK guesthouse. Rooms are rented through the San Juan Motel owners are one and the same. I will add photos of the room I stayed in in my most recent visit.
This B&B which looks lovely and clean and so on is actually not a B&B but a hostel. You have to go to the San Juan motel (where the rooms are $60-70 per night) to pick up the key and you get given your "continental breakfast" in a basket (apple, pear, banana, two muffins, a bag of grapes and two bottles of water). Quoting the hostess "you can eat it now or in the morning, we don't care". When you let yourself in there is no one to great you, no warmth or hospitality at all. It really is a hostel. Rooms are tiny and not soundproof at all. There was no bedside table or lamp but worst of all, this was an uncomfortable night - the mattress while new seemed like it was made of folded cardboard. . The snoring from the next room very audible. The shared bathrooms are all clean, new and serviceable but by this point you don't care... ALL of this would be fine if you were paying $60 to 70 like the San Juan Motel - but they charge $110+ so as a result one expects something more hospitable. This felt like a rip off. This is not B&B..
This is a unique Bed and Breakfast in that it does not feel bound by the tradition of serving breakfast!||||No breakfast was even served the weekend I stayed (too busy) but I still paid the price I booked at. The bed was not made and linens not provided...I had to call in the evening at bedtime to get new towels. It is a shared bathroom which was in no way clear on hotels.com. I was not expecting much but was disappointed anyways.||||The location is good...but that is it. Never again will I stay here. Overpriced as well.||||Not sure why but check in takes 10 times longer than it should.
The only saving grace about this bed and breakfast is its proximity to the ferries to San Juan Islands. The beds are extremely plasticky - kind of dorm beds with a resin cover. The rooms are extremely small. The bathrooms were okay. The kitchen was nice with what seemed to be a relatively new GE fridge and cooking range. Other than that, look for a better alternative,
Avoid at all costs! 1) Charged FOUR TIMES for the same stay. After SEVERAL months of assurances that I would be credited back the almost $1500.00 I was charged, I finally had to resort to fighting them through my credit card company (as did the other two travelers with me). 2) Despite the advertised (even in the kitchen of the B&B) full breakfast - there was no breakfast. When I questioned them, I was told "honey, we don't do breakfast in the winter". 3) Room furnishings: Even a Spartan would feel ripped off, an operating room is more inviting. 4) Actual check-in is the San Juan motel - several blocks away. Would have been nice to know. 5) Took several days to get the powerful curry smell out of my clothes, hopefully just a one-off. I used to live in Anacortes and love the town. Don't let this place ruin the experience for you. The price is outrageous for what you get - spend less of your money to stay somewhere else and avoid the disappointment. You've been warned!
This was my first experience at a B&B. I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't what I thought it would be.||||Check in: When we arrived, there was a typed note taped on the door telling us to go to the San Juan motel a few blocks away to check in...less than convenient. If I knew, I would have driven straight to the San Juan motel to check in. The owner checked me in and gave me our "breakfast" for the next two days. She reminded me not to smoke and told me there were cameras all over...I think she was lying, I didn't see one.||||"Breakfast": Here is what the website advertises, "Here at Ana's we offer a variety of fresh fruit, muffins, cereal, hard boiled eggs, hot coffee, orange juice, milk and tea!" I was surprised when she handed me our breakfast basket at check in, consisting of 2 apples, 2 small bananas, 2 large blueberry muffins and 2 bottles of water...for 2 people...for 2 days. There was no mention of any other items for breakfast.||||Our room...room 8: I am happy that we sprang for the room with the balcony, because it was the only saving grace. All the other rooms (besides the one with its own bathroom on the first floor) were really small. Our room was advertised as the, "Deluxe King Second Floor with Balcony and Fireplace...This spacious room on the second floor offers a generous King-sized bed, a small fireplace as well a private balcony." There was a king size bed, but it was hard. There was no fireplace... There was a balcony that only we had access to, but "private" is not the word, seeing as how it's on the front of the building. There were no chairs to sit on on the balcony. There was one bed side table, and one chair in the room (and a table). I think that in a "Deluxe King" room there should be enough furniture for 2 people. The mirror was just leaning against the wall in the corner, and I couldn't see my whole body in it, unless I leaned it in such a way that I saw myself from a child's angle. Also, the light bulb was out. I could have called to complain, but we decided to just use the lamp on the one bedside table.||||Check out: I was told to drop the key back off at the San Juan motel...not very convenient.||||Other: I was glad that there wasn't anyone living at the B&B who we had to interact with. I saw the housekeeper each day. She did a good job and was friendly. I wish I knew that check in and out was somewhere else and that we should still plan to buy breakfast. The location was awesome because we were attending a wedding 2 blocks away.||||Next time: I'll look into renting a house in the area. It would have been fun if the whole house was with filled with other wedding guests, but it would be cheaper to rent a house.
From the outside it looks nice , but there is no one onsite , you have to check in at the San Juan hotel . The breakfast is given to you at the San Juan hotel when you check in! We were there for almost a week and got a basket of bananas , few water bottles and bunch of muffins , one of which was cut in half and missing the other half .. needless to say that didn't sit well ! After getting our key and went to the BB, no one was onsite to make Breakfast or have coffee or anything for you in the morning !! The room had a slab of concrete that squeaked for a bed ! I think the hardwood floor would have been softer. The whole house had no decor.. minimal furniture and and plain white walls .. looks like a dorm room .. We will never stay here again .
Because most of the hotels in town were booked, I figured I'd splurge and do a bed and breakfast. Alas, to my deep disappointment, this is not a bed and breakfast! It's really just a crummy hostel. The "breakfast" was 2 bananas and 2 apples, two bottles of water, and two muffins in plastic wrap, served in a metal salad bowl, and given to me in the evening at check in! My check in experience was less than pleasant--the staff was inattentive, distracted, kept rolling her eyes at anyone who needed anything. The shared bathroom was not a big deal, and the bed was comfortable, but the hike from the hotel front desk (?) to the house (with no staff, and confusing instructions about locking the door upon leaving) was annoying and unexpected. Decor was spartan. It's a room to sleep in, and nothing more, which would be fine if it was priced accordingly.
Love this place! The owner is super kind and always helpful. All the ladies working here are super kind and helpful. The yarn sold is so beautiful hand dyed to perfection! I am on my second pair of socks with yarn bought here. Iâll be back!
