American Inn - Motel in Sumter - 4280 Broad St, USA

This motel is very dirty.. cigarette burns on the sheets, long pieces of hair, broken furniture, and lady of the night hanging out of the doors.. I do not think I will spend the night here, I would rather loose out on the money.

We chose this motel, because of the price, reviews and location near Patriot Park where we would attend a soccer tournament. We were pleased overall. It is an older motel, but has been recently remodeled. We appreciated that it had laminate flooring rather than carpet. There were some problems, which we considered minor. Had we planned to stay more than one night we would have spoken with the manager and feel he would have made things right, but since we only needed one night's stay, we didn't bother him. There was no clock or soap, which we didn't expect anyway and were prepared for. The furniture wasn't new, but was o.k. with us. We couldn't get the TV to work properly. Since it was almost bedtime anyway, we just passed our time looking over tourist info and calling home. We were awakened by the smoke alarm beeping, because of a low battery. My husband took it down and put it under the mattress to quieten it. The motel is on a corner by a Pure gas station/conveniece store and our room was on that side. There was a lot of activity there and noisy vehicles back and forth on the side street early in the evening, but we turned the a.c. on and that pretty much drowned out the noise and at some point that business closed, so there was no more activity there. If we stay there again, we will consider asking for a room on the other side of the motel. Before dark some young men who were staying several rooms down from us set off a bit of fireworks, but that was over shortly and we had NO other noise all night long.

The place was disgusting. There was roaches, the sheets were stained, also the towels. I swear there was blood in the shower. First thing I did was walk across the street to the nearest gas station and bought a bottle of bleach. I will never go back to that place ever again, we were desperate to go there because of the hurricane and all and that was the only place that had an available room. The people that ran the place couldn't understand anything I was saying. When we got into the room the first time the fridge didn't work. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Oh also it was in a pretty bad neighborhood, I wouldn't go walking anywhere at night or even around the motel complex, I was scared walking to my car ( which was not even 100ft feet away ) ; we stayed in room 106, the toilet seat was pretty gross too, it was all stained and cracked. Also the light fixtures were all dusty and stained with God knows what, and there were no light bulbs in there. I would say the only good thing about this place was the mirror. Other than that I wouldn't even rate this place a one, but yeah that's my only option. Hopefully they read these reviews and open their eyes to all the dissatisfied customer's.

If you have the money do not stay here. Rooms dirty. Bedding dirty. Roaches visiting during the night. Booked a nonsmoking room. Got a smoking room. When manager was told,he said every room has an ash tray. But I guess the cigarette ashes are in every room too. Had to clean it myself. Had to stay do to being so late at night and other hotels in area were booked. One and only good thing pet friendly. And the fire alarm had toilet paper wrapped around it. Not a joke.

If i had a room like the ones in these pictures, maybe I'd be a bit more kind. I picked this location because I was told it was brand new and ignored the 1 star rating it was given by orbitz. they were extremely accommodating and friendly, I couldn't be happier with the service and the welcome we received. however, at almost $50/night, you really cannot complain. my issue was that for this to be a brand new motel, most of the furniture had to be donated. our room had no tables, just a nightstand and television stand. the bed had gross stains and the headboard was old. the sink had a huge crack and if you weren't careful, you could rip the faucet right out. the shower curtains were stained, we had a broken chair, and you needed two remotes for one tv. and speaking of the tv, they failed my test. I left my tv on and left. the owner was outside, making rounds. when I came back to my room, my tv was off which said, to me, that someone went in and turned it off. there's no strip under the door to keep bugs out and I woke up to one on my pillow. would I stay here again? possibly. again, staff was extremely friendly, it is close to EVERYTHING, and everything in the room worked. would it be my first choice? absolutely not. but my thing is as long as I can take a decent hot shower, I'm not picky and here, you can...with the shower curtain open.

I don't usually write reviews pro or con, but this was a sad experience in the Motel 6 chain. I have stayed in Washington, PA, El Reno, OK & Roanoke Rapids, NC and would stay at the Motel 6 at any of those places again. I was traveling with just my dog & myself and staying here on Dec. 30. The pros were it had a microwave, refrig and a spacious room. Negatives: (1) crawling bugs I was killing continuously (2) sticky and dirty surfaces. (top of microwave, side of table, gritty flooring). (3) a cigarette hole in the bedspread (4) a dismantled fire alarm device (5) even a Nov 2015 HBO guide (I stayed here Dec. 30!) (6) wobbly table (7) No available outlet to plug in laptop. (8) No blanket (only bedspread). (9) No outdoor mat to wipe feet and since it was storming, I was tracking wet shoes and water into the room. The two rooms next to mine had outdoor mats! ||||I guess that is enough and you get the picture. I was offered another room by the manager, but I was already unpacked, tired and it was storming, so I just dealt with the room but I filled out a card took photos if anyone cares and will not stay at Motel 6 in Sumter. This is not indicative of the chain in general but is a disgrace to the chain and in my opinion room 103 was not acceptable. Also outdoor area where I walked my dog was littered with garbage - unappealing, altho my dog had some interesting sniffs.

I've stayed here multiple times this year with my boyfriend/fiance to get away from my family for a few days. It was decent, I didn't see any bugs or stains in the 2 rooms we had stayed in in December and June. However the Smoke Detectors sitting on the counters were disconcerting, and while we were getting all of our stuff into our friends car at 10:30 or so the maid kept coming by, banging on the door, and telling us to hurry up and get out when our check out time was 11. We also had the thing on the door asking for clean towels, for about 1-2 days. They never gave us clean towels.

The room was filthy...dirty smears on the walls, baseboards had years of dirt on them, the sheets had stains (not sure they had been changed after previous occupant), bath towels were stained, saw a roach in the bathroom and the furniture was broken and stained. If all of this wasn't bad enough, checked in at 2:30 am, after driving all day and being exhausted...the maid started pounding on the door at 9:15 am and 3 more times until we left at 11 am...checkout time is 12 noon! Needless to say we slept in our clothes because of the nasty sheets, didn't get showers because of the nasty towels and left exhausted from our sleep being disrupted!
