This was an amazing place to stay! It’s in a great location, very walkable to most Salem attractions and just a short walk to the train station to Boston. The home is well-maintained and gorgeous, and the room we stayed in was very nice, clean, and comfortable. The best part of the stay was the host, Virginie, who was very kind and added many personal touches to the stay. The food was amazing, with such a wide variety and excellent presentation for breakfast, afternoon tea, and snacks. While we had a lot of great food on this trip, hers was the best! We would definitely stay here again!
My wife and I stayed at the Amelia Payson House for a weekend in August and we enjoyed our time immensely. Virginie, the proprietor, treats her guests like family and is as excellent as a B&B host could be. She gave us excellent food and activity recommendations, made sure our every need was attended to, and always went the extra mile. Virginie's breakfasts were a great way to start the day, and her snacks and caffeinated beverages made sure we always had the energy we needed for what we had planned. When I come back to Salem I will look no further than the Amelia Payson House.
Our stay at the Amelia Payson house was perfection! Virginie is an amazing soul; her energy & love & impeccable taste are poured into every inch of this historic home. Her breakfasts were delicious! Organic food, stellar coffee, homemade pastries & treats! Virginie’s attention to detail & her guests comfort was A++. The house is also half a block from Salem Common & walking distance to downtown Salem. Phenomenal location.
First, the host: Virginie. She is warm and welcoming and you feel right at home the minute you enter. She brings her Parisian elegance and charm to this quaint New England town. Her breakfasts are lovely, organic and delicious. She accommodated vegans and vegetarians. The house: The beds - day bed and queen bed were so soft-we fell right asleep. Cozy living room to relax in. The street is tree lined and cobblestone and away from the noise of Essex Street but a 5 minute walk to everything- the T station and all the shops. She has Hermes products in the bathroom - so luxurious! All was magnifique! A true gem in Salem. Lisa, Brad and Emma.
If I could give the Amelia Payson house more than 5 stars I absolutely would! My husband and I stopped for a quick summer getaway and had the most amazing time. Virginie is definitely an exceptional hostess and chef. This special home hits all the senses in the most exquisite way. From the lavender scent upon entering, the vibrant flower colors in the garden, the bursts of flavors in the breakfasts (with herbs from her own garden), to the soft kisses of her bunny- what a memorable experience! Charm, elegance, and comfort all within walking distance to Salem attractions!
Our stay was absolutely incredible. It is located in the heart of Salem and surrounded by lots of delicious restaurants and fun “witchy” activities! Virginie went above and beyond as a host… even serving breakfast at 7 am before an early flight! Great foods, bed, and location! Book now and I promise you won’t regret it!!!
Our first stay but it will not be our last. It is within walking distance of all the key sights in Salem on a street with other historical houses and a minute from the park or green. What stood out for us was the attention to detail and thoughtfulness. Examples included scones and a pastry for our drive home, birthday cupcakes for another customer but shared with all, absolutely delicious food for breakfast and tea with attention to our dietary issues. The room and the common rooms were all comfortable with great amenities. But it is really the hostess, Virginie, who makes this place special. We shall return.
We can’t say enough good things about Virginie and our stay at the Amelia Payson House. Yes, it’s very close to all of the attractions. We parked our car and walked everywhere. Everything is between a 5-10 minute walk. The outside is a charming historic building and the inside is beautifully updated. From furniture to artwork. Everything is crisp and clean. BUT Virginie is just amazing! You immediately feel her love and warmth. ( We’ve actually never stayed at a bed and breakfast before. To be honest the idea always seemed a little to “ people-ly” for me. lol! We’re a more quiet to our selves family.) Her personality makes you feel comfortable right away. It is totally like staying with a family member you hadn’t seen in a while. It felt like I knew her for years. And then her breakfast, pastries and tea! It was like artwork! Too pretty to eat. And then you did and just melted into all the amazing flavors. In between, loving up on her adorable dogs. It was super sweet being greeted by them in the morning and on our return from our day. We looked forward to it. Two quotes from my son while staying there….”I love her” “I never wanna leave” I think that about sums it up! 😂❤️😊 Realistically, take away all the Salem attractions and just the stay at the Amelia Payson House with Virginie, her food and dogs is well worth it.
Our first time in Salem, our first witch trial tour and the Bewitched tour was the highlight of our visit. Our guide Sarah did a wonderful job of sharing history of the witch trials, the town, the people, some trivia and the period in an engaging ent
Falafel sandwhich. As soon as I bit into it I swear my eyes rolled to the back of my head. Great portion size. The price is right for how tasty it is, honestly. You just have to try it. Service was incredible. The crispness was crazy good. My taste b

Amazing exhibition. Beautiful story, both authentic and humbling experience. Being able to walk through this house and hear the historical commentary was like being transported back in time. A must see if you are in the area.
