Visiting Roanoke- We made a last minute decision to make a reservation. From the moment we walked in until we left the service was exceptional. The food was exceptional!! The Crab Cakes were phenomenal. The best we’ve ever had. Highly recommend Alexander’s.

Every time we go with friends or just ourselves we always enjoy everything about our visit. One of our favorite places to eat if not our favorite place. If you have never experienced Alexander’s do yourself a favor and make a reservation and sit back and enjoy.

If this place is not on your “must try” list when you visit Roanoke, then add it today. The food was superb-I had the best grouper in my life. The service was phenomenal and the atmosphere was amazing. We will be back.

I’m sad that we hadn’t been to Alexander’s sooner. The food was fantastic and the service was outstanding. We were concerned about how well dinner would go with our toddler, but the experience was far better than expected. Everyone ordered something different and tasted each other’s food. All of it was delicious. I regret that I didn’t order the crab cakes. We did agree that the fillet was the best and I will be ordering it next time we visit. Likewise, the desserts were all amazing with the crème brûlée being the crowd favorite. Our middle son is a budding pastry chef and he was especially excited about the profiterole. Others have left comments about portion size and to that I will say that the quality, portion, and price is reasonable for this type of restaurant. If you are looking for an abundance of food at low prices, you may want to stick to one of the local buffets. Otherwise, take the opportunity to appreciate the care that clearly was taken to procure the ingredients and prepare them in a way that is unlike any other establishment in the area. Thank you, Alexander’s, for a top notch family dinner.

Update after the response from the owner: If you cared enough to look at my picture, you'd know I'm not a Sir LOL I'm dropping to 3 stars because your customer service isn't as good as I thought. If you're in business this long, you should also know that writing a longer response to a rather short review is a bit ridiculous and makes you look defensive. There's no need to defend yourself; I was just providing some feedback from the customer point of view, and I wasn't even that critical. To be clear: you wouldn't be overseasoning the steak because mine was underseasoned; the coffee you served was watered down and not very good and when you have an espresso machine you can make a cappuccino too ;) It was a bad decision to remove the machine in my opinion. I drink an espresso after each heavy meal, no matter the time of the day, just like most Europeans do. Even if you define yourself as an upscale bistro but you pair your dishes with wine, and your decor and atmosphere smells of "fine dining," that's the impression you give. But you're right; you're definitely not fine dining. It’s a very cool place with good food. Their waiting staff is very professional and basically invisible. I wish they were a little faster with delivery though. We were there for 3h and it could have been 2h which is my preference. My steak was perfectly executed but the whole dish could use some more flavor (seasoning on the steak was a little light). I like that they pair dishes with wine and my Malbec was their very good choice. Desserts are a bit subpar: chocolate cake was dry and probably wasn’t fresh. Crème brûlée was actually very good but simple on the flavor profile; I’d add a chestnut purée in the bottom or something like that to complicate the flavor a bit. It’s an exciting place and with very little effort they could make it a truly fine dining restaurant. Finally, my biggest criticism is that they don’t have espresso. That’s just unacceptable in a place like that ;) I’d come back again though, to try other dishes.

The restaurant was wonderful. The staff were all very friendly. The dishes we had( pecan crusted chicken and Tuscan rabbit) were very good.

A wonderful restaurant that elegantly presents delicious, inventive dishes. They cheerfully accommodated my vegetarian wife (the menu offered no vegetarian entrees at the time we visited). I will warn the trader, this place is pricey, but you get what you pay for.
