Great sushi. Service was not the best. No willingness to substitute made my experience less than the best it could have been.
Spicy tuna and salmon skin roll were good, just smaller than I expected. Agedashi tofu was a bit more bland than I'm used to. Butter scallops were good. I guess they were closing soon so the server came over to constantly take dishes away from our table which was kind of annoying. We were looking for a last minute place to eat, should've looked at the pictures more clearly. They have a lot of awards posted on the wall so try it out for yourself
Not sure why this was rated so high, i suspect the service and quality was better before the pandemic, but can't imagine how it could have fell so low. Stopped by to have dinner with the family. Made reservations early enough to get seating. A few highlights of the poor service and average food quality: - My $35 Chirashi didn't taste as fresh as it looked. The volume of food was also disappointing given the cost. I could have gotten equivalent, but better value at Kozo Sushi. - Their popular Butteryaki Scallops tasted I and was tender, but also looked better in the pictures. - We needed to request for tea multiple times before we got our first cup, then never got a refill, after asking for it multiple times. - During the time we were there, many patrons came in saying they had a reservation, but they were told they are all full at the moment. Then was told to wait outside until they were called. Luckily we came early. - We added a dish towards the middle of our meal that never came and while we were waiting they tried to convince us to cancel the order. Given the time we already waited for their service throughout the meal, it wasn't worth waiting any longer, so we canceled the order. Bottom line, it seemed they were focused on turnover and profits, rather than providing quality customer service and food.
We did not make a reservation and all The tables were taken. We left and went to our car and the owner came out and said if you like we can accommodate you in the back room but you need to sit on cushions at the low table. We accepted and had the best experience. The service was outstanding and the food was delicious. Highly recommended.
Fantastic. Easily among the top few places I've been to for sushi. The service was great too: friendly, helpful, attentive wait staff. They were even patient when we had a bit of a language barrier! We went our first night in town, and liked it so much we took some friends a couple days later. They got noodle soup dishes, which also sounded fabulous.
One of the best meals I’ve ever had! The fish is so fresh, and everything we ordered came out AMAZING! Andy made our experience even better with great conversation and prompt service. The ambiance of this restaurant is perfectly authentic. This is a must eat place!
We didn't make a Reservation (highly recommended) but were seated rather quickly. We were seated in the traditional dining area which was amazing! The Scallop Butteryaki is definitely recommended. Had the Soft shelled Crab roll, Spicy tuna and Salmon rolls. All of it was absolutely delicious! For the price you definitely get what you pay for and then some.
My husband and I travel to Hawaii frequently. We are food fanatics and we have ventured to many restaurants in Honolulu. However, we decided to use IG for ideas and found this gem. The atmosphere was as if though we were transported to Japan. We were greeted by Yuko and she was absolutely radiant. Her warm smile was contagious and welcoming. We sat down and she suggested her favorites and we went with it and we weren’t disappointed. Please note that this is not a large establishment so be patient. While we were waiting for our food, Yuko showered us with complimentary appetizers and we never had a first time experience such as this. Now for the food, it was absolutely fantastic. This is a MUST when in Hawaii! Please comment and share your experience with us. Enjoy!

Stopped in here for the highest rated sushi around. I was happy that I did!! This place was great! We ordered 5 rolls and they were all really good. Rainbow roll, Hawaiian roll, Spider roll, spicy Tuna roll and Volcano roll. All were great. The
This is a must for breakfast. I always order the salmon and roe musubi. I know everyone comes here for the spam but these triangle goodness is the best. The line does get quite long as sometimes it takes 25-35 mins to get your food. But you know it w
A great blend of traditional and hip, serving a really unique menu of Japanese delicacies. Suggest the mac nut tofu and their signature rekkon cheese (Japanese style mini pizza) appetizers to start. The sushi selection is of highest quality. Save ro
Hands down best sushi in Hawaii. Gaku was recommended to us by our scuba diving instructor who is a Japanese sushi chef before moving to Hawaii. Every piece of sushi is prepared so delicately and skillfully. Each cut of the fish is so precise and fin
Located in the center of the university area. The staff was extremely attentive and friendly. The portion sizes are huge. The menu has variety, but not at all overwhelming. I love this place. I will definitely return. PS love the hot house sake to wa
I was very impressed with Gyotaku. To start, the salad was a really delicious surprise with a much appreciated imitation crab piece. For the entree, the steak was perfectly seasoned, tender, and juicy. It came with tempura as a combo, which was a fan
They renovated not so long ago. The space is even bigger and not overwhelming like the old space. The interior made me feel like home and very refreshing. The food is still as fresh and tasty ever since. Aunty gave me a fresh banana (so kind and frie
Worth the visit! The fruit punch was delicious and we loved the crispy pork gyoza. The tonpeiyaki (pork omelette) was also awesome. It was also entertaining to watch the chef cook it in front of us and have him immediately serve our food hot. Beca
You know its a good Japanese restaurant when most of the patrons are Japanese speakers. The price is decent and this place satisfy my ikura/uni cravings. Most of the meals comes with both a rice and soba combo. Also, this is the first time I tried
Shoot was - as expected - amazing. Stunning mastery of technique, patter, and showmanship. Hilarious sense of humour, was great at working the crowd and had a lot of warmth and heart incorporated into his performance, and the story he told throughout
I have been searching and searching for great biscuits and gravy like I used to get back in Texas, and OMG these were so so so so much better than that. Did something different and went with the chicken biscuits and gravy and was happily surprised at
Ono, soo ono. If you enjoy the taste and feel of each bite in your mouth, this is the place for local, healthy, ono eats. Fresh every single time. This is the first time in my life that I have eaten at one restaurant three (3) times IN THE FIRST WEEK
