A must! Please visit. Fantastic coffee options. Delicious breakfast options. You can not find eggs cooked our with the spices offered here. My favorite breakfast dish is the crossiant egg sandwich. Fluffy, scrumptious, and packed with flavor! Ethiopian Injera that is gluten-free (unlike some local Ethiopian restaurants). A delicious and clean Ethiopian offering - without heavy oils. We always order the vegan Platter or chickpea stew for lunch/dinner. A cozy, cozy space to co-work, mingle. And enjoy!
Unique, inviting and impressive! We were greeted so pleasantly as first timers here and the coffee was made with so much care. We ordered a vanilla latte and a pour over coffee. Both were so delicious and the price is so affordable! Thankful to have ABOL CAFE in our neighborhood.
The cafe is a gem! Hands down, some of the best coffee in town. The coffee is bold and smooth, and you can get many of the typical drinks you would find in a another coffee shop but the variety of Ethiopian concoctions on the menu are a great new experience! The owner is super friendly, generous , and accommodating. He loves to tell customers all about the history and culture surrounding Ethiopian coffee and treats regular customers like family. The food is great as well. I personally love Ethiopian food so getting coffee here in the morning along with the house vegan platter is a fantastic way to start my day. They recently added a lot of custom wood furniture to the interior that really adds to the cafe's personality. Best place to go in crescent Hill for a quiet cup of coffee!
Okay, Abol’s Cafe on the corner of Cannons and Frankfort Ave. may be impossible to beat for a coffee and cultural experience. Owners Rahel and Tar are from Ethiopia, the origin of coffee and human beings, so the story goes. Rahel greeted me and prepared a traditional Ethiopian Pour Over, which was fabulous. But, I had to have a second round and she prepared for me a Latte with Timadam or Fingeru, which means “health” and it blew my taste buds away. I’ve never had anything like it. The best part of the experience though is Rachel’s stories about coffee and it’s place in Ethiopian culture. For instance, coffee was discovered when a monk saw a goat eat from the coffee tree and he then tried it and found it delicious. I also learned everything on a coffee tree has a specific purpose. Rahel will also conduct the Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony for small groups and it’s best to call in advance. I hope some friends would like to try it with me sometime. The only bad thing I can say about Abol is that it is only open 1000-200 on weekdays so i can’t stop in when I work normally, but it is open Saturday and Sunday. I absolutely love this place and can’t wait to return.
Yesterday I decided I was going to try a new local coffee shop and Abol is the place I chose (their menu mentioned baklava, and i couldnt resist) This place is amazing. I actually forgot to take pictures because I was too distracted talking to the owner about the amazing atmosphere and Ethiopian language and his experiences as an immigrant in the US and his very fancy coffee machine that he was very proud of ("the Telsla of coffee makers", he called it! He showed me how it works, and it is - in fact - the Tesla of coffee machines). So not only was the service and atmosphere absolutely inviting, the quality of human interaction I experienced was remarkable. I spent a full hour just talking and asking questions and getting to know the people working that day. Also - they have a printer available for anyone to use (pay like $.15/page or something) - all you have to do is email them and tell them "hey im having this printed and I'm going to come get it in half an hour" - which is such a thoughtful service to offer, especially for those of us who dont have a home printer but still need to be able to print resumes and school assignments or various forms required for daily adult life. So - if you're just looking for a great cup of coffee or a tasty treat, I would highly recommend this place. My medium coffee and baklava (a generous serving) came out to $11 - very reasonably priced. If you are looking to connect with new people and experience a sense of community and perhaps indulge in a bit of cultural exchange, in addition to enjoying a delicious coffee, I can assure you that you wont be disappointed at Abol Cafe.
What a hidden gem! Tar was a welcoming and enthusiastic host, with extensive knowledge of coffee. I ordered an iced Dalgona coffee as recommended, and it wasn't cloyingly sweet or bitter. Priced similar to Starbucks yet the quality was miles better. If you are a coffee enthusiast, you'd dig this place!
This place is so cute. I only knew about it from Books & Brews and came to try the coffee. My latte is delicious!! The guy working here is super friendly and nice. I will be back to try the food.
Absolute gem of a cafe. We stopped here after eating at Burger Girl and so glad we did. Owner was extremely pleasant and the coffee plus snacks were great! Highly recommend this place.
