Erra Matti Dibbalu also called as Red Sand Hills, a notified National Geo-heritage Monument, is situated at the outskirts of Visakhapatnam City. It is located very near to the Bay of Bengal and is one of Visakhapatnam's many heritage sites. Formed around 12,000 years ago due to sea-land interaction. Comprises a mixture of sand (40-50%), silt and clay (another 50%) with oxidation imparting the unique red colour.
Really suprb view towards navy security tower is amazing nearly 80 meters depth vally..but water nd some food plse bring with you...nd enjoy sceneries..after relax at beach.
the place is good, unique in itself.but walking in the sand is difficult and exhausting. also the watch tower is at the start of the trail and is presently damaged thus cant be used. this place is good only when u have covered all the places in vizag. carry ur own water and eatables, nothing available at the site. be vigilant for snakes, if u go off the trial. there must a watch tower at the centre of the site too.
The terrain which speaks for itself. Geologically so enriched and enigmatic as well. The red sediment is the result of leaching of iron from may be garnet and formation of iron oxide like limonite and goethite. The 25-30 m thick pile of sediment deposition may not be a single episodic event. Basement is still to be explored. Such scenic beauty are rarely observed. Nature is the best artist.
Mentioned in the list of tourist attractions but this place is not maintained and the pics u find in Google are not from the recent past but very past haha.... Not clean and not advisable for family trips !! Suggested only when u are looking for solo or time pass trek with friends when u have no time to loose. Or else there are many more places to visit and don't waste tym on this .
