Watch Tower, Koonthakulam Bird Sanctuary - Bird watching area in Koonthakulam - Tirunelveli, India

Very nice bird's sanctuary in Tirunelveli District. We visited on 25.4.2023... During this summer seasons only limited bird's are there. In season, we have to see more birds.

Usually from February to June month you can watch the flock of birds here. Also in the village trees you can see the birds very near. Painted stork and goose are the birds visit regularly in the season. This sanctuary has a watch tower and helps you to view the water area. If you have a binocular, it's nice to see the birds. Evening is the best time to visit. Bring the snacks and enjoy your leisure time. Mobile network is poor in this area.

Mr. Palpandian is a gem. Visited the place early in the morning. Absolutely loved the serenity of the place and all the water birds. The view from the watch tower is wonderful. Going to be one of my favourite hangouts.

Probably the best time of the year to visit is now.... plenty of birds and nice cool and continuous breeze, crystal clear sky ...ideal light for photography. Silent and serene. Loved it

No entry pass required A watch tower is available The near by area are farm land and Village No hotels available Packaged drinking water available

But frequented by many. Many birds were there, though. Has a huge lake with a few islands, trees, in the larger etc. Friendly birder, lent his binocular and shared his expertise. Place requires sprucing up and publicity. Entrance fee of Rs.10/- is too less.

I love a lot this birds sanctuary. Here many of water birds are available commonly we have seen some major storks, herons, lapwings also common birds and owls. If you want to see many birds come in October. Thank you guys

This is a great place for bird enthusiasts. The village has set a very good example by giving protection to the resident and visiting avian population. The sense of security due to protection and care by Koonthakulam villagers, the birds nest in huge numbers in the area. Few binoculars have been provided by the Forest Department at the sanctuary for the visitors to enjoy the view of birds in the lake area.
