From Kozhikode New Bus Stand I took a bus going to Koyilandy and got down at Thiruvangoor. The ticket is Rs25. From Thiruvangoor I took an auto-rickshaw. The round trip fare was Rs70.
Found the spot where Vasco-da-Gama landed on 20th May 1498 and hoisted the Portuguese flag.
And the European colonisation of India started.
Vasco-da-Gama to his surprise found people who knew his Catalonian dialect. This proves that others had landed before but are not famous. He was also surprised that there were Christians. This is due to trade with Eritrea, one of the oldest Christian countries in the world. The Arabian Sea was called the Eritrean Sea before the founding of Islam.
Just a memorial statue near to road side. The Vasco da Gama Landed Here memorial at Kappad Beach is a captivating tribute to a significant historical event. The memorial commemorates the arrival of the great explorer Vasco da Gama to this very spot. Stepping onto the beach, you can't help but feel a sense of awe and reverence for the past. The stunning views of the Arabian Sea and the tranquil surroundings create a serene atmosphere. It's a perfect place to reflect on the historic voyage and the impact it had on shaping the world. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply seeking a peaceful beach experience, the Vasco da Gama Landed Here memorial is a must-visit destination.
Shocking neglect of one of the most important sites in the history of the subcontinent. Stands by-the-way with zero ceremony. Drive out from Kozhikode only if you deeply care about ticking this box. Beach next door is not bad but if you come looking for history, prepare to be disappointed.
Went to this place with lot of expectation as it has lot of history n significance.
But this place is nothing worth visiting it's just a cement statue which is not even well maintained.
There is nothing great which really reminds us the historical significance it should be telling us.
The beach next to it is really good , it just made us forget this pathetic place and enjoy the beach.
One time visit, 25 rupees per head
A simple memorial statue to commemorate Vasco De Gama's landing at Kappad Beach. There are no markings or anything to locate this memorial statue.
Nothing special at all!
It's a historic place. The stone structure is not maintained. The Kappad beach where it is situated in is a popular beach. Public amenities are available.
Best dental clinic in town.
Dr Nijin made my dental visit so easy and painless.I had a very pleasant experience there. The doctors and staff were very friendly and compassionate. Reasonable rate .Must visit for all dental issues.
Kappad Beach in Kozhikode district is a hidden gem along the Malabar Coast of Kerala, India. What sets it apart is its serene simplicity and natural beauty. At Kappad, the sunset is a daily spectacle that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinar
