It is worth visiting and exploring the surrounding nature of dam. Unlike traditional dams, this is designed as a reservoir with exits to irrigation canals. This does not have other exits with flood gates. The view from top of dam is very good and perfect for evening visits.
The view of the water body looks like the India map when viewed from a top angle from the top of the hills but unfortunately we weren't allowed any further. It was hard to even get permission to walk on the dam but after many requests, we finally got a couple of moments to walk across and get some good shots on the bridge. Cool Breeze in the midst of the scorching sun above, silence and the chirping sounds of the birds in the background, breath taking views satisfied the soul like never before. Vani Vilas Sagar Lake and dam. It is the oldest dam in Karnataka and goes by the name Mari Kanive. The dam in Central Karnataka is a feat of engineering. A dam that has immense historical value. The drive is easy. 1 hr is sufficient to cover this place. Aged people may find it difficult to climb down to the view point.
Oldest Dam in Karnataka built by the Wodeyar Maharaja of Mysore. It's still working and the architecture is beautiful. It is an engineering Marvel of those days. They don't allow the public above the Same. But you can see it from the Inspection bungalow. Vehicle can be driven upto the Inspection bungalow. Must visit place near Chitradurga.
