This is medival period fort and ruled by gond king.fort is in pathetic condition.govt need to preserve this place to keep our history alive. If their was good maintaince of vairagad fort,this place would be the one of good tourist place in that area.only history interested people will visit this place.otherwise not worth to visit this place
Fort is not Maintained, all the assets breakdown.. No security guard nothing.
We should maintain our history, there is no maintenance in that fort ,the local people and government should maintain our history..

Vairatgad Fort (Pune) King Bhoj of the Shilahar dynasty built Vairatgad in the 11th century. During Shivaji's period the fort was used only as a military station. Shivaji Maharaj conquered the Wai region and included Vairatgad and Pandavgad in his kingdom. The British captured it in 1818.
Vairagad Fort is famous for it's ancient Temple & fort. On the bank of river Khobragadi and Sati, an ancient fort of Nag kingdom. Accourding to Italian survey, there may be diamond mine. The name Vairagad to be a corruption Of ' Vajrakar ' meaning ' Diamond mine. The village Vairagad is surrounded by security wall of fort.It has been identified by some as being the same as Viratnagari of the Mahabharat where the Pandavas passed in hiding the period of their exile in disguise. About half a mile to the south of Wairagad is a small temple of Bhadresvar crowning the top of a small hillock. It is probably quite antique and bears great resemblance to the style after which the Markandeya temple at Markanda is built.

Vairagad (Ta. Armory, Dist. Gadchiroli) Type Nearest village - Sthaladurg. Vairagad way Gadchiroli- Vairagad, From Gadchiroli northward is the railway to Lakhandur. Armori is a taluka village on this railway line. To the east of the armory is the fort of Vairagad. Desaiganj- Vadsa- Kurkheda- Vairagad railway is also there. Vairagad is situated near the confluence of Khobragadi and Satnal rivers. The currently visible fort of Vairagarh was built by Babaji Ballal Shah in AD. It is mentioned that it was built between 1572 and 1597. The fort has two gates, is fortified, many buildings are dilapidated, no potable water. Mukkamas is a village temple.
