It's good to see it getting cleaned on daily basis. This well sculpted gate has survived better and gives proper idea about Dabhoi fort's layout. This gate is datable to the middle of 13th century. A watchman looks after it.
There is no actual fort, their are just remains of gates. Though gates are majestic and carving on gates is mesmerizing but gates are in bad condition. Concerned authorities should start mainting it or else people will encroach it and soon these remains of fort will disappear.
A 10th century site made by vaghela kings, only 4 gates have survived, looking at the gateway, the fort might have been impressive. But too much ornamentation, looks more of a ceremonial gate,
Just ruins of a marvelous historic place... interesting play of light and shadows with sudden staircase which creates illusion
One of the historical gates from all 4 four gates available within Dabhoi town. Guards allow to visit on weekends sometimes along with precautions by not touching anything and maintaining the historical value of place. Construction and art shows the real artistic things on it. View of Dabhoi from the top of side all we can say Amazing.
Having entered Dabhoi and on reaching this first destination of our Dabhoi visit, this thought definitely crossed my mind that should I have come all the way from Ahmedabad for this spot. So parked our bike opposite so called fort and entered the gate. Greeted by ASI caretaker, and we told him our purpose. He pointed to all around and carried on his work of cleaning the premises. Earlier King had built a fortified wall around his city with four gates in each directions. Over so many decades it withstood the wrath of nature but couldn't save itself from human wrath. Locals have over the years encroached over the fortified walls and what remain are four gates and a small portion of the adjoining walls. Thankful that ASI has taken some preventive steps and locals are now able to realize the importance of such monument and started taking care of history. The first gate named as Vadodari gate looks so simple from outside but once you enter the gate, sculpted pillars leave you amazed. Take a walk on the left out side walls. The pillars, slabs and windways across the width of walls leave you praising the craftmanship of our ancestors. The simplicity on the outside walls is offset by the intricately carved pillars of entry gate. Well maintained in its remaining state, check out this place at your earliest. Photos are amazing to click and go on clicking. Enjoy.
Visited Oct 2021. Gate and adjoining columned 'balconies' done up well by the ASI. See attached pics. I went up a nearby building to get a better pic of the gate, LOL.
I wouldn't waste much time here. There are better forts on Pavagadh and in Vadodara than this. Not tidy or maintained. Broken mostly.
