It's our lovely campus surrounded by greenery. Almost all the departments are situated in this campus. The main attraction of Golapbag campus is the big pond surrounding which the buildings and Central Library is situated. Previously the place was a property of Burdwan Maharajas but after the abolition of zamindari , the property was given to establish burdwan university.
Being a student of Burdwan University, it is very obvious to promote my institution but the pleasing view and natural beauty inside the campus and the ambience is beyond competition. This kind of beauty is unmatchable. If one is coming to Burdwan for a day tour, it is a must visit place for him/her. This place is open for all. If one want to just come and visit the campus, he/she can do that, eat at the central library, roam around the campus. And the gates of the campus closes at 10:30 pm. So, one can visit the place before that.
The University of Burdwan (also known as Burdwan University or B. U.) is a public collegiate state university located in Purba Bardhaman, West Bengal, India. It was established by the West Bengal Government as a teaching and affiliating university on 15 June 1960 with six graduate departments and 30 undergraduate colleges spread over three districts that come under the jurisdiction of the university. The university currently offers more than 30 undergraduate and 66 postgraduate courses.The last maharaja of Burdwan, Udaychand Mahtab, left the entire property of Burdwan to the government of West Bengal after the zamindari system ended in the 1950s. The then chief minister of West Bengal, Bidhan Chandra Roy took the initiative of establishing a university at the premises of the palace of the maharaja. Thus the university was established in 1960.Sukumar Sen (ICS) was the first vice-chancellor. The university began with the humanities division, with the science and engineering courses included afterwards.
The university had jurisdiction over Purulia district, Birbhum district, Paschim Bardhaman district, Bankura district, Purba Bardhaman district and Hooghly district except the Srirampore subdivision. Over the years, the university lost the jurisdiction over the districts of Purulia, Bankura, Birbhum and Asansol, Durgapur to local universities, namely Sidho Kanho Birsha University in Purulia, Bankura University in Bankura, Biswa Bangla Biswabidyalay in Birbhum, Kazi Nazrul University in Asansol & Durgapur and Rani Rashmoni Green University in Hoogly.
Best place to be in town, away from the cacophony ! The trees compliment the entirety of its vast richness, separating the department building in different zones. A pool is situated in the middle of the campus, once used to be the bathing ghat of the then Maharanis of Burdwan. It's an eye feast for the visitors, for students, it's a complete 2 years of solitude !! Serene, calm, and beautiful !!
It was awesome....but lac of maintenance. The pond is so full of plastics. After you enter into the university, at right side there is law and humanities departments parallely. Must go and watch the calm and quiet ambience of the university.
Very peaceful area in West Bengal. The campus was so beautifully arranged and aesthetic view was also decent.
