A very nice place from where you can get a ferry to Umanand. Sunset from here is very charming. Many people visit Umananda temple by ferry from here.
Umananda is a Shiva temple located on the Umananda Island (Peacock Island) in the middle of the Brahmaputra River at Kachari Ghat in Guwahati, Kamrup District... Evidence of a stone temple belonging to the post-Gupta period can be seen on the site. The site contains medieval stone sculptures and carvings from the early period. There is also a rock-cut of Ganesha and a cave as well as a female image of an inanimate stone..
Ferry services were not running due to high flow in Brahmaputra river. It's always better to have a check if the temple visit is allowed as disruption in ferry services may spoil the plan.
Umananda ghat is shifted near fancy bazar(Shukreshwar Ghat/Park) from uzan bazar as some construction is going on on uzan bazar.
The island didn't live up to the expectations, And River needs to be cleaned. The ferry ride was good, and the Sunset was beautiful. Don't get your expectations much high.
A neat and clean boarding point of Govt Ferries. An organized set up and comfortable ride to Umananda island. Charge return fare of Rs 20 per head.
Lovely ferry ride you get. It takes 10-15mins to cross over one side, visit the UmaDevi temple and back again with the ferry ride. Scenic views all around. Waiting for the ferry to move takes atleast 30 minutes to move as they wait for people to load and then move to the other side. Had a nice darshan, little pull and push you will have to manage here and there. Great views around the temple premises also. Street vendors all along as you climb up the stairs to the temple. You get to buy coconut water for 50/-, chat like jalmuri, papdi chat etc., fruit bowl and cucumber. Climbing the stairs in the humid and hot climate can be tedious and tiring. Do carry water and tissues. Don't litter though. Pandits give full attention to you while giving offerings and expect money after darshan. Gives a different experience altogether for sightseeing in Guwahati.
This ghat is used to visit Umananda mandir located middle of the mighty river Brahmaputra. Nowadays only large ferry are allowed with necessary precautions, life jackets etc. These ferry services are with to & fro to Umananda mandir & Guwahati.the price is nominal ie Rs 20/- per trip. It is a good experience with the boat riding in the mighty river Brahmaputra.
