West Bengal is a very interesting place to visit. I have been here many times over the years. People are very helpful and will give you the time of day to talk. There is never a dull moment in Kolkata. Howrah Station has changed so much compared to when I first was there, with its steam and disel trains that I love. Now there are more modern train running. Next to the station is The Train Museum.

Staff of the West Bengal tourism department are with very good behaviour and helpful , but their hotels are slight costly, but the good thing is they give senior citizen discount on their hotel teriff.

Absolutely worst behaviour by employees. They have called and mailed us to collect Durga Pujo Carnival passes from the NS building office. That same day, after an hour, they called and told us that they can't provide passes and that we should contact I&CA Department at Nandan. We went there at Nandan and the security guard told us that they don't have any information regarding that and behaved very badly. Also, Tourism department didn't pick up any calls from us. Totally unacceptable behaviour from a Government entity.

The ground floor is vacant and unclean.The office is in the upper floor. The present employees are helpful.Although,the ladies are really busy in some more important matters.

It can be a challenge to get them on call to answer our queries. Even if we get to talk to them, conversation can mostly be only in Hindi. I hope they understand that tourists to Kolkata would come from various parts if the world and its necessary to have staff addressing customers in English as well. There's currently metro construction going on in front of their office.

While I visited office for booking of rooms The dealing executive Mr Tamal Naskar, was extremely co-operative and helpful . Unfortunately, before visiting the Tourism Centre, l tried to book the rooms, on-line, when, after making the payment, the system, declined to allot the rooms, on the plea, that the rooms selected are not available, and the sum deposited will be refunded. But, when l visited the office, l got confirmed reservation for the rooms selected.

This tourism center is mostly aimed at Indian tourists and not foreigners. (I say this because only Hindi was spoken) Not much of a tourism center compared to other places I've been. They are just here to sell ONE tour package,
