It is a very important event in MAYILADUTHURAI,on both sides of Cauvery river,held every year during the Tamil month of Puratasi.It is said that Ganga Maatha herself came to Mayuram and took a dip in Cauvery,in the Thula kattam.Mayuranathaswamy and Vatheneeswarar come to Cauvery and give theerthavary to the disciples. It is considered that taking a holy dip in Cauvery is equal to taking bath in the ghats of Ganga in Kasi,on the Kadaimuzhukku day and have dharshan in both the temples of Vadaneeswarar and Mayuranathar.
Once in 144 years, lt is believed that Cavury river gets the sanctity of all holy rivers of India during this season.
