Thiruvalluvar, commonly known as Valluvar, was a celebrated Tamil poet and philosopher. He is best known as the author of the Tirukkural, a collection of couplets on ethics, political and economical matters, and love. He is the great saint and tamil poet. He has long been venerated as a great sage, and his literary works a classic of Tamil culture.

The Marina Beach, is not only famous for its long sandy beach, but also for the beautiful surroundings, old iconic buildings and more importantly, the various statues of famous personalities all along its length. The Thirukkural is considered one of the best Tamil literary works available. Thirukkural consists of 133 chapters with 1330 couplets, and deals with the everyday virtues of an individual. The author of Thirukkural is Thiruvalluvar.The great poet, Bharathiyaar praised Thiruvalluvar in one of his poems, saying "Tamil Nadu had given Valluvar unto the World and had thereby won great renown", in Tamil it is "Valluvan tannai ivvulakinukket tantu vanpukal konta tamilnatu" Our late People's President Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam once said: "Thirukkural is considered to provide the code of conduct for the humanity of the planet earth for all time, which makes the past meet the present and creates the future." Thirukkural does not refer to any nation, leader, society, language, religion or caste in the entire book, which is why it has been called the 'Universal Veda."

Thiruvalluvar is one of the well known universal poet. The premises are maintained well and throughout the stretch by Corporation. If guide maps installed in major junctions will be great support for visitors.

Daily I see the statue in the Beach. I walk in the Beach in the wee hours of morning. All statues are recognised by the Department or select group on their birthday or anniversary. If they maintain it well by cleaning the area daily and painting the statue once in 6 months and wash the statue atleast once a week due to birds droppings on the statue can be removed as they are left in the open. Also, the display light, at many of the statues are not burning. So visitors may not identify the persons deeds. Up keepment is lacking.
